Fremont to LA Roadtrip

Fremont to LA Roadtrip

Picking up S at factory later this month. Big Sur is within range, but can you get from there to Harris Ranch without stopping to charge? Is there another Supercharging station that is more readily accessed, heading south to LA?

You'll definitely want to hit the Gilroy SC. | June 12, 2013

Seems like if you have a fully charged 85KW, you can easily make it to Harris Ranch without stopping, even going 70 on Highway 5. It's only 158 miles.

That said, you might want a quick break at Gilroy to check out each station, or if you have a 60 KW, then I'd consider stop in Gilroy to top off.

I've done the run from Mountain View to Harris ranch (a similar distance as Fremont to Harris) a number of times, and so far I have stopped in Gilroy. With a full charge (60 KW) it looks like I could do it without stopping at Gilroy. I may try it on my next trip. On my last trip it took exactly 158 miles of rated range to get from Mountain View to Harris ranch. | June 12, 2013

Opps - I may have misread your intent as getting from Fremont to Harris Ranch. If you wanted to know about Big Sur to Harris Ranch, I don't know.

If you are doing 152E to I-5, you might make it to Harris Ranch without stopping at Gilroy.
However, for peace of mind, you should top off at Gilroy for 20-30 mins.

The problem with Gilroy is it's not exactly on the path to LA from Freemont or for that matter from many parts of the bay area. Damn out of the way, and in some of the worlds worst traffic (that won't bother the car). For example I took three hours from SF to Gilory one day on the way to LA. And that was with no wrecks. Distance is only 70 miles.

So if you ask them to charge you so you can get to Harris, I'd save Gilroy for another day, and get out of dodge.

Fremont to Big Sur = 120 miles
Gilroy to Big Sur = 75 miles
Big Sur to Harris = 176 miles

Fremont - Big Sur - Gilroy = 195 miles
Fremont - Big Sur - Harris = 296 miles
