Gift for Day 1 Reservation Holders

Gift for Day 1 Reservation Holders

Wasn't there supposed to be a "special gift" for day 1 reservation holders? ie die-cast model of the Tesla M3? Did that fall through? Some received the gift and others didn't. Anyone know how this was supposed to work? I have had my car for about 2 months now. But I never received a special gift. It's ok if I don't as my M3 is my gift to me but just curious.

bradbomb | November 15, 2018

I wasn't a Day 1 Reservation Holder, but I believe I did receive the gift when I picked up my vehicle in July. There was a red model inside my front center console storage. I did reserve back in 2016, but in April 2016. I picked up in July this year after ordering at the end of June when it opened to everyone.

Rt002k | November 15, 2018

I was a day 3 holder but got it because I asked for it at my delivery. Perhaps they ran out?

Carl Thompson | November 15, 2018

I guess it was a gift for day 1 line waiters who bought the 1st production model (LR RWD). Not for day 1 line waiters who chose to wait even longer.

George with SacEV | November 15, 2018

I WAS a "Day 1" reservation holder and did NOT get the die cast model. It would appear because I configured a later production combination (though I configured early too), many of you who took delivery EARLIER, but with later orders and configurations got the die cast model...

And I am quite unhappy about that omission/loss. I actually bought the expensive die cast model of the Model S since that was the car I migrated from to take delivery of the top-of-the-line Model 3.

MS-lover | November 15, 2018

I asked for it at my deliver

slingshot18 | November 15, 2018

The original intention was for day 1 line holders. Some how along the way it turned into gifts for random customers. I got one. Not a line waiter. Ordered in August. AWD.

azdonna | November 15, 2018

It wasn't for Day 1 reservation holder, because I only reserved mine this past April. When I picked up my car in July, there was a red die cast Model 3 inside. I heard they gave them out to everyone until they ran out.

skygraff | November 15, 2018

Yeah, the day one line waiter gift promise seems to have morphed into a non-starter.

Originally, it was thought to be the drawing but then that was given to everyone and even made available to looky-loos visiting a showroom (Chicago Gold Coast has them in a little basket in the frunk). Later, the metal Model was purported to be the gift but, as has been mentioned, many line waiters didn’t get it (unless they asked) while many others did.

Happy to have a great car but customer service, communication, and Elon time are the price of admission. On the plus side, I never expected anything other than a leg up on delivery by standing in line and anything Elon promised after that would just be a bonus.

This isn't the same as the die-cast model of the S for sale. It's literally the size of a matchbox car, 1:43 not 1:18 and doesn't open or anything like the bigger die-cast models for sale.

spuzzz123 | November 15, 2018

It’s bigger than a matchbox and it’s awesome!!!!! I’ll trade my lr rwd plus diecast model for your p3. Heck of a deal whaddya say?

Magic 8 Ball | November 15, 2018

Yup, nice little toy car, bought mine on ebay for ~$75.

Magic 8 Ball | November 15, 2018

I should also mention when I bought the toy car someone else sold one a few days later for less money. No price guarantee on the one I bought so I guess I am SOL.

sduck409 | November 15, 2018

There are still babies who are concerned about this? Grow up.

jithesh | November 15, 2018

I think it was supposed to be the die-cast model which we didnt get during delivery. However they recently got a big stock of the die-cast in my delivery center in Dedham, MA. I was able to go and pickup mine for free. Although they said they are giving it to all reservation holders so not sure if its just for Day 1 or every 1.

Also its just a small model kind of like hot wheels. I was hoping it would have doors/frunk opening but none of that so nothing fancy.

-TheJohn- | November 15, 2018

That's nice to know they got some more of the toy cars. Pinch of salt of course but when I asked for mine they apologized and said I could totally get one when they got more.

slingshot18 | November 15, 2018

@Magic 8 Ball Ha!

Magic 8 Ball | November 15, 2018

@slingshot18 It gets worse. I just found they are selling on ebay for $45 now and rumor has it TESLA got more of them to hand out. I feel so cheated. How do I escalate my outrage over this?

Rt002k | November 15, 2018

Duh, EVERYONE knows that's standard policy everywhere!

HighlandPony | November 15, 2018

I didn't get mine when I picked up my car and I bugged them several times afterwards. The story was always the same "We are out and we don't know if/when we will be getting anymore in." I finally got one when I went down and volunteered to help deliver cars at the end of Q3 and explicitly asked for one. They were handing them out like candy. Said they found a couple of cases in the back.

slingshot18 | November 16, 2018

@Magic 8 Ball Time to tweet at Elon.

one.more.again | November 16, 2018

Seems to depend on the Delivery Center. My wife's car had one in the console when she picked up Sept 15th, and so did mine when I picked up on Oct 14th. We were not reservation holders, and only started looking at Tesla at all in late August when we were shopping for an Audi S5 to replace my wife's older car.

We actually ended up with 3 of the model cars, because when I went to pick up my car they were still detailing it and I had to wait for 20 mins in their lobby drinking lattes. They felt so bad they gave us the extra model. Sold it on ebay for $75 bucks to M8B.

Just kidding, we actually gave it to the owner of 5 Point Auto Salon in Carlsbad, CA for doing such a great job on my PPF, tink and Ceramic Pro coating.

Must ask for it.. I did and got one.

garibaldi | November 16, 2018

If it makes you feel any better, I reserved earlier this year and got one.

Haggy | November 16, 2018

I was a day one reservation holder and never got one. They didn't exist last December. Tesla told some people that they will get them to those who already had the car, but that hasn't happened.

borne.by.wind | November 16, 2018

Tweet Elon and ask for $5000 in compensation

Patrick | November 17, 2018

Was given a red one in a nice clear box during 11/1 delivery. A nice touch...

h2ev | November 17, 2018

I don't mean to rub it in on you day 1 reservation holders, but much to my surprise I found the die cast Model 3 under my center storage when I got home. I ordered in August this year with no prior reservation.

Note to everybody: Get a Life!!

Magic 8 Ball | November 17, 2018

If I get a life can I get a refund if I don't like it or find someone else got a better life for cheaper?

JustSaying | November 17, 2018

In addition to the Model 3 toy, Day one reservation holders and early purchasers received;
LR RWD
Discounted Premium Paint selections
Limited time silver and OSD black paint options
Lifetime free OTA connection
A $200 Delivery discount
Did I miss anything?

CASEMAN | November 17, 2018

Let's get a class action suit going. We are all entitled. We are so entitled.

dylan.mcgrath | December 2, 2019

As a day one reservation holder who was among the first in the world to reserve (we are 20 hours ahead of California) I sure expect to get model when I finally pick up my car on Thursday 5 Dec 2019. This means I've been waiting three years and eight months to finally get my hands on the car!
I'll certainly be demanding one at delivery.

M3phan | December 3, 2019

Good luck with that, they ran out of those back in 2018…at least here in the US. Oh there may have been the anomaly popping up in new car pick ups in 2019, but their attempt to honor in any kind of order Day 1 reservation holders didn’t perfectly work out. Anyway, you will have the full life-size version to enjoy! Before you demand anything, take a look inside the center console of your car, that is where they have typically put the model. But as I said, don’t be surprised if you are told they are out of stock, in which case you can find several of these on eBay for sale if you really want one. As a Day one reservation holder myself that didn’t receive the model, eBay worked for me.

M3phan | December 3, 2019

Annnnnnnnd...... after typing this it looks like several of you received it here in 2020… Excellent! They must’ve gotten a new batch.
Got mine on eBay for about $75 as well.

spuzzz123 | December 3, 2019

@dylan you can have my matchbox car if I can have your dual motor pricing and performance.

Magic 8 Ball | December 3, 2019

Holy necro thread. firstname.lastname

kevin_rf | December 3, 2019

Also broke down and got mine on ebay along with a matching cool white matchbox.

mknewman | December 3, 2019

I was an online day 1, got a nice model 3 drawing in the mail. I understood only the line waiters at the stores got the diecast models.

bradbomb | December 3, 2019

@mknewman I got a diecast model in my Model 3 armrest and I wasn't even a day one reservation. I reserved mine on April 16, 2016 which was Day 17 I believe.

Tesla2018 | December 3, 2019

I was a first day line waiter and didn't get one. I don't care since I have no need for one, the real one is much better

M3phan | December 3, 2019

@JustSaying, nice! Good perspective.

FISHEV | December 3, 2019

I got a first day thing but it was goofy printed graphic of some kind. Picture of the car. Did they think we were going to bronze it and keep it the three years until we took delivery.

And paper...not exactly the most sustainable prize for buying an EV.

Magic 8 Ball | December 3, 2019

I like turtles

jamilworm | December 3, 2019

I still have my Model 3 concept picture I got in the mail.

nwfan | December 4, 2019

@JustSaying, pay as you go supercharging from day 1.
Pay extra for Pearl White.
Different seats then later Model 3's.
Panel gaps. Charge port problems.

I just my memory is different than yours JustSaying.

And $7500 Fed Tax Credit to help offset higher price
of vehicle.

nwfan | December 4, 2019

just - guess

dylan.mcgrath | December 4, 2019

spuzzz123
Not sure what you mean by having my 'performance' but the price in Australia is $93,585, including some $15K in government taxes and charges. No EV incentives around here.
For that money and considering the long wait, I think the least Elon can do is cough up the promised gift.

accentcreate | December 5, 2019

@JustSaying

As a day one reserver of 2, yes TWO model 3s I had to pay full whack for the Pearl White paint,
I had no delivery discount. In fact no delivery at all, I had to travel some 400 km across France to collect my first one.
I've never been advised about the lifetime OTA connection either.
And zero tax credit in Australia, although I did get a rebate in France, offset by their 20% purchase tax!
I only received my Australian Model 3 yesterday, after a 3 year, 8 month wait. I must be addicted!

Can you tell me where this information was supplied?
