When will Tesla include software that shows the direction of travel that steering wheel will take the car when in reverse gear?
Don't know the answer but I hope they provide this as an option - if at all. I very much like the backup camera as is. The view is so clear that I don't see any need for guides.
I'm pretty sure that they did say they would eventually add it.
I would like to see guides appear only when the car is in reverse because I routinely use the "backup" camera as a rear view mirror.
Noticed that the rear view mirror is not showing the horizon due to the sloping roof to the rear (have pano). I am a 6' guy, put seat all the way down and have plenty of head space. So the geometry of mirror-roof line seems unusual. Then I thought about "Do I really see the horizon?", and the answer is "no". about 50-100 feet to the rear is plenty.
I don't think rear-camera guides are necessary. The automatic tilting of the side mirrors when switching into reverse is plenty. I don't think it is explained in the manual, so simply put the car in reverse, adjust the mirrors downwards, so that you see curb and rear wheel, and save that in your driver profile. Switch back to D, mirrors move up; shift to R, mirrors tilt down. GREAT STUFF.
Also, rear view for every car takes some adjusting. Recently drove my wife's mini clubman, with barndoor and wide central post in the rear window. That took some adjusting as well. So just because it is novel, does not mean it is an objective flaw.
