Heading cross country!

Heading cross country!

Drove from Kentucky to New York last week to pick up my daughter in Hoboken for my co- pilot. As I was exiting the freeway for JFK, I hit something in the road that blew out a tire and bent the rim. Called tesla service at 7:am Monday morning. They had a new tire and rim on by 9 am. Left JFK supercharger at 9:45. Stopped in Hoboken and on to Newark, De. Full range charge and left with 258 miles. Pulled into Somerset sc with 11 miles rang left. Somerset to Macedonia in 3 hrs. It was snowing so the leg to Maumee, Ohio was slow. Got in at 2:30 am and couldn't get to the supercharger because of the snow that hadn't been plowed. Went to a Hampton inn 1/2 mile away and called Tesla. The guy told me to get some sleep and he would see what he could do. I went back to the sc at 8 am and it was clear. Are these guys the best or what! Headed out to Mishawaka with temp at 6 degrees. I'll keep you up to date if there is interest.

I agree that this does not need to be scripted event where Elon presents J&J with a golden key to the factory, but I think PR could have maybe done some sort of backchannel outreach to get some media there.

Congratulations John and Jill from me up here in Seattle! It's been a gorgeous day up and down the West Coast. The perfect welcome weather for you, after all you've gone through along the way.

You've made history this week. Whether or not any professional PR people have caught on yet is moot IMHO.

Enjoy and have a safe flight home Jill,

Assaf

Congrats!!!

The world will never be the same.

Neil Armstrong's words apply to you as you stepped out at the Hawthorne Supercharger:

That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.

Literally.

I've been following this thread all week; so exciting to see the successful conclusion! Congratulations all around: John and Jill for taking the opportunity; the entire team at Tesla Motors for making it all possible; and the local Model S owners who came out to provide a fitting welcome to the travelers.

Kleist | January 25, 2014

Congrats J&J!
This equals for me hanging at the radio to get the first tunes of the Beatles White Album release and starring at the TV for the Moon landing. Thank you so much.

I hope someone takes proper pictures of the two drivers and the car...

John and Jill, and your entire family, too --- CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU! Glad you both made it all the way safe. Not sure if there has been a thread like this ever, with so many posts in so short a time, and all just gushing with unbridled interest, pride, and enthusiasm. And to think that John ended his original post "I'll keep you up to date if there is interest." A truly epic journey started with an epic understatement. Group hug, fellow enthusiasts!!!

A round on me!

ChristopherH | January 25, 2014

Congratulations on the successful trip... Can't wait to go the other way this Spring.

Roamer@AZ USA | January 25, 2014

My fast lady. I have been watching the Super Charger build out schedule for months. Tracking along on your cross country trek has made the dots on the map come to life.

Thanks for sharing the journey with Tesla Land.

Best wishs for safe travel home to both of you.

Andrew Bissell | January 25, 2014

@omarsultan I hope you don't mind I shared one of your pictures posted here via twitter (giving you credit). Can take it down if you object. Exciting times! Felt the need to share!

omarsultan.ca.us | January 25, 2014

They are all @johnanniegibson's pics - I am just posting for him...

Bikezion | January 25, 2014

Awesome! I don't own a model S ( sadly :_( ), but I'm a huge fan, suffer from tesla psychosis (which I can't find a cure!), test drove one which makes it worse!, tell everyone I can about Tesla and the model S, and the superchargers, and that one day it'll be possible to drive coast to coast for free! Now I'll tell them it's been done! Soon anywhere in the US will be accessible by the greatest car ever mass produced! Thank you John and
Jill and myfairlady, what an inspiring journey! How does it feel to create history?

Who's making the Wikipedia page? On January 21st 2014 John and Jill successfully drove their Tesla electric car from the east coast to the west coast, through all kinds of weather, to arrive in California on January 25th, being the first to use the Tesla supercharger network. Traveling over 3,600 miles, using NO gas, and paying nothing for fuel! Successfully eliminating the drawbacks to electric automobiles, and effectively obsoleting the current gas guzzling automobiles. Special thanks to the visionaries (and crew!) at Tesla for making this all possible! And thanks to John and Jill for embarking on such a journey!

This is SOO exciting!

Tâm | January 25, 2014

Arrived about 5:45 PM Pacific time.

In good spirit and good shape And Answered EveryOnes' questions.

Plugshare.com was also here presenting them a gift.

Electric-car-insider.com also here to cover the story.

Another history was made.

A big congrats to J&J and thanks for letting us all come along for the ride! I really believe this will be remembered as a true American milestone.

J.T. | January 25, 2014

Can we get some names for the faces? John and Jill I figured out.

STEVEZ | January 25, 2014

@Bikezion: they actually left NCY/Hoboken on Monday, the 20th: six days of driving.

miller1744 | January 25, 2014

I just sent this to Tesla Public Relations

I find it absolutely unbelievable that there was not one Tesla representative to welcome John and Jill on their momentous cross country trip. There should have been at the least someone from the public relations department along with a photographer to record this historical occasion.

As a Tesla owner, I am very disappointed in Tesla's lack of attention to their arrival at Hawthorne.

I would think at least a call from Elon would be in order.

Dianne Jager
Model S 85 owner

Bikezion | January 25, 2014

Dang it! I went by the post date! Should have reread the first post! I can't edit.

assaf.oron | January 25, 2014

@omarsultan thx for adding the pics and finally letting us see the faces of the intrepid travelers and their LA hosts.

I added your "Tesla rolls into last stop" pic to my Daily Kos post if you don't mind (with attribution of course).

Congratulations again.

Shesmyne2 | January 25, 2014

I got chills at about page 12. Monumental.

Safe home Jill-we'll do our best to be co-pilot in your absence.

Hope to do the ride along to Fremont John. We'll be your co-pilot in Jill's absence.

Still Grinning ;-)
