How can Tesla owners participate in group Tesla run from NY to LA?

Elon, if you read these forums, please let us know how and when Tesla owners can participate in your future publicized drive across the country once the cross-country Supercharger network is complete... I think that would be an amazing experience to do a three-day Tesla run with a few hundred Teslas (although it may tie up the charger stations :) The media would have a field day with this event too, and would be a great demonstration of how electric vehicles can cross the country, and give Tesla great publicity.

It's a family roadtrip!

May be if we can all send in our paperwork to become his family :)

How bout something a little shorter so more people can join in... ...this years week long Hot Rod Power Tour was from from Arlington Texas to North Carolina .... 2014 (only 314 days to go) ... t's the 20th year of Power Tour - and it's from
from Concord, NC to Wisconsin Dells

Exactly, as if Elon would want the total zoo of a bunch of us tagging along on a trip cross country with his family.

ThorensP | July 25, 2013

Jgdixon: my guess is Elon would love 100 Teslas driving behind his lead car from LA to NYC. It would be a publicity magnet, all the way. Especially if we all gave test drives along the way.

Lets organize it !

It's not a promo tour.

Ok! Oh uh!

Just for fun, just suppose there is a flood of 10,000 adoption applications.

Can some math wiz arrange charging schedule for 10,000 cars plus one (Elon's) driving from LAX to the bottleneck of 4 bays at Barstow Supercharger station as the first stop on their way to New York.

How far apart should they be? Should 4 cars start driving every 2 hours or 1 hour?

Can Google Map Satellite visualize the long line of 10,000 cars from LAX to New York?

I am seriously considering a trip to NY from LA prior to the Super Charger network being completed. One of these days I need to plan it out... if only there was an EV trip planner (hint) I am curious as to how long it would take... maybe I'll open up excel and start a spreadsheet this afternoon.

I am thinking of this... but the other way SF to NY. October would be 100 years...

ThorensP | July 27, 2013

Kleist, That looks like a fun route. I'd be down with that for next summer after the kids are out of school.

I guess this is one of the down sides of being in the middle of the country. I can't really do a coast to coast trip. :0)

Took some time Thursday to map a route from the factory in palo alto to Boston. Part of a scheme to get my car week or so early. 8 days. First stop Carson City, NV (250 miles - a bit of a stretch). Had a total of 18 stops. Picked stops based on Plugshare's map. Now all that is left is to convince the wife and convince tesla to switch my delivery location. I already raised the topic, as exploratory, with my delivery contact. It is pretty squarely in the pipe dream category at this point, but it has been a fun fantasy so far. I have visions of a big blog opportunity and have even identified the charity to whom I would give my 5 series as a capstone for the trip. If this ever gets out of the fantasy category (and that would need to be in the next week or so) you can bet I will let this board know.

I considered a factory pick-up and drive back to WY. The problem was that CA sales tax would be collected, best I could tell.

Others have driven their cars from Fremont, CA back to the East Coast before.

Here's one example from last September:

There should be more Tesla Stores & Service Centers if you can't find Superchargers.

@Liz G

One good thing is you don't have to start at the same time. Relax and wait until they come to you then you can join in the convoy in the middle.

BGYWGY | July 27, 2013

@Tam - thanks for the blog link. I had not seen that. Great to see it actually done. Just makes me want it more.

If you don't like northern route, here's an example of southern route from last December:
