If you decide to buy

If you decide to buy

I am going to have my test drive tomorrow. Let's say I like the car and decide to go forward and buy. What's gonna be the chain of events and timeframe? How much time do I have to make my choice? To whom I should talk. Who is going to contact me and when? I plan to buy S with smallest battery. How does it affect my timeframe? Thanks.

Assuming since you got invited to a test drive you have a reservation already. Your reservation number is the best starting point for a guess as to when all these pieces fall into place. There are any number of opinions in several threads on how it will ultimately pan out. Here's one of the busiest:

I'm 2720. But again, I will need the smallest battery.

If not getting the air suspension, then 2013 is earliest. You should be contacted 3 months before earliest possible delivery date for your reservation number -- that would be August in my estimation.

At that time you choose your options and get an estimated delivery date. If base 40Kwh without air suspension then I'm guessing Jan/Feb 2013 for estimated delivery date. When you sign on with your config, some of your deposit becomes non-refundable with the balance due on delivery or just before delivery (I imagine they'll want the $$ before they ship the car).

To answer your question, your res. remains live for 1 mo. after "First Contact". You have a one-time 6-mo "postpone" option as well, if there are things you still need to wait on before deciding.

Thank you, Brian. Did TM publish anywhere the whole procedure step by step.

Not sure. Anyone?

There are bits and pieces of the process scattered all over the TMC site. I don't know of any one location. I think we'll have to wait until a few more are delivered for this information--and it may be changing as Tesla discovers problems with the current flow (this is just speculation on my part)
