Bummer. This would have been a prefect movie for the Model S.
Especially since Jon Favreau, the director, has said that he used Elon Musk for his inspiration in depicting Tony Stark (and as Brian H would say, perfect, not "prefect.")
Yes, perfect, not prefect. I'm good, not perfect.
For the Iron Man fans out there... Elon plays a small part in Iron Man 2... during the "Monaco" car race.
I'm watching Iron Man 2 and thought that was Musk. BTW - Audi is prominent in this flick. Tony Stark just flew past a building with Audi Engineering in big red letters on the side. Product placement must have cost them a pretty penny.
Plus, I believe Don Cheadle in IM2 is a Model S early adopter, too.
You can see Cheadle driving his S in the most recent season of House of Lies - not a very long sequence as I recall.
R8?.....please.... the driver still has to reach out for the door handle. Bush league.
Actually, there is a shot where Gwenyth Paltrow and the other female lead are driving away from Stark's house where the interior of the car appears to be a Model S. No exterior shot, though.
Sadly Tesla will probably never be used in a big blockbuster movie due to the lack of noise from the car. Viewers would find it very odd to have a car driving and no noise coming from it in the movie...
Not to mention the amounts these car companies pay for their placement is massive and wouldn't be worthwhile to Tesla...at least not at this point.
As a producer who want's to control every aspect of sound on the set however, the Model S is PERFECT for that!!
I may be wrong, but I understand that ICE cars are not normally allowed on inside stages or theaters due to fire/fumes hazards unless off. When they do appear, they are on empty tanks and pushed into place. Anyone a Fire Marshall that knows more?
Seems like the Tesla MS is the perfect choice to avoid the ICE hassles and risks for a movie/TV production - if you can ignore the product placement fees.
@TeslaTap.com, or they can re-skin the Model S by putting a bright blue car cover over it and along the interior as well. It maybe really is that the Model S is already in Hollywood Movies but we will never see it unless we were involved in pre-production.
I used to own the actual R8 they used in the movie. Kept getting offers for it, until one that I could just not refuse :)
I saw a frame grab of Tony Stark's garage, and I believe that a Roadster was part of the lineup.
Correct about a Roadster in Tony Stark's garage (in IM1). Until recently, the actual car used in the movie was in the showroom at Menlo Park. But the last time I was in there, it had disappeared. Don't know what they did with it.
