Many of the NYC taxis are hybrids. They drive an average of 180 miles per 12hr shift. Ideal for a MS 60, supercharge between shifts....
TM will never subsidize and pay for the cabbies' electrons... Some cab drivers pay up to $15k a year for gas.
If an owner of a fleet of taxi were to pay for the installation of the supercharger then it'll be another story.
In Oslo they already have MS as taxi. Saving $20k/yr on diesel parking and tolls

Remember that the SCs are essentially marketing expenses and tools. Cheap ones. What better way to give people "test rides" than in taxis? With every taxi driver a salesman?

Precisely. What would prevent Tesla from creating a variation of supercharger technology for cash generation purposes? Superchargers were for connections between cities.
What about inside the city? Than it is going to be a taxi station that a normal model S owner can't activate, but a car with special key can. And the keys will be sold at Tesla offices.
Such complexity! The exposure would justify either a free or privately paid model. The SCs are MARKETING from TM's POV. The electricity expense would be several hundred a month. NBD. If behind a gate or in a garage, only the taxis would have access.
