Picked up my S 85 this weekend. OMG.

So I picked up my Tesla S Friday and have had it for the weekend. OMG.

If I could describe via video game what it feels like to drive this thing... this would be it:

Congratulations @asim77 and welcome to the Tesla family!

We picked up ours 10 days ago, and still can't believe how wonderful it is.

more TGrins Perfect!

irishstoutaz | June 10, 2013

Congrats!!! We had our S85 delivered Sat afternoon. Simply amazing and drove 300 miles on Sat and Sun. I know we will being to look for excuses to drive it. :)

asim77 | June 10, 2013

Thanks everyone...

First quick impressions

1. I love my car.
2. My son almost pinched his fingers in the handle... is this common? Will it stop or will it take his finger off?
3. It's so darn fast.
4. I'm not getting close to rated range right now. I imagine because I'm flooring it every chance i get ;)
5. Upon delivery there was a scratch on the front "grill". I pointed it out and they replaced it on the spot. Make sure you check the car all around for issues like this. Like you would with any new car.
6. I love slacker radio.
7. Web browsing is awesome.
8. Having an ok time with voice commands so far. Maybe it's my Canadian accent :)
9. Nav is awesome.
10. This car gets looks.
11. I'm coming from an 2011 M3. This is the most fun I've ever had driving a car.

Congrats @assim77.

Re. item 2., the door handles won't hurt anyone when they retract. See this old thread for more info. about that.

asim77 | June 10, 2013

Thanks Bob.

Trekker56 | June 10, 2013

welcome Asim! good to have another desi (I'm assuming) Tesla Model S owner on the forums!

therealmach3 | June 10, 2013

Funny on No 8. I couldn't get the voice commands to recognize a thing I was trying to say today. I only had it for an hour before I had to drop it off to be tinted, but I am convinced that my Model S has an issue with Norwegian accents! :-)

dbrooks | June 10, 2013

We are picking up ours on June 20th at the factory.

This is my first post on any of the forums after reading and obsessing for months.

I almost can't stand it. Its almost here!!!!

I need coping mechanisms. Any Ideas?

Call around to all the different Tesla stores and get more "test drives" to confirm your purchase ;-)

Also, keep your eyes peeled for the demo happening on the 20th. Not sure if it will happen in Fremont or . . .

olanmills | June 10, 2013

I love F-Zero.

It's Tesla anxiety. We've all had it. It only gets worse as the days near.
You can start buying things for it so you'll have them ready.

For instance, I shopped around for opti-coat, Photosync window film, led lights, etc.

The rest of the time I trolled here for whatever I can learn.

dbrooks | June 10, 2013

@ S-Car-go...(love the handle btw)

Thanks, I have done some of that too. I already had the charging wiring done at home, bought an extra charging chord for the house (leaving the other in the car) and have an appt. for the day I take delivery for Opti Coat. (which sucks cause they keep it for a couple days) What did you decide on the window film? I am still researching that one.

RIGHT! I totally didn't put 2 and 2 together on the Demo thing...Could we be so lucky? Hmmmmmm.

@asim77 Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.
CONGRATS. I am so jealous. ;)

rdalcanto | June 10, 2013

My car comes off the line on Wednesday the 12th. Tesla will have the funds tomorrow. But it needs to go from Tesla to Denver, and then to my house in Salt Lake City. I have no idea when it will be delivered yet! Hopefully soon. I too am dying, and I am tired of checking the forum several times a day for the last two months....

Beelz | June 10, 2013

@dbrooks Perhaps I will see you in the 20th, picking up my grey S85 at the factory. Hoping I get a glimpse of the "demo"

jchangyy | June 11, 2013

Congrats. I'm going on 4 months, but fun continues. My wh/mi came down nicely to 321 average.

You're in for more meetings with strangers than you ever imagined. Even though the car's been out a while, people constantly want to know more about it. Today, I had to laugh at myself. I was on a freeway exit ramp and a guy next to me was making motions for me to put my window down. I did so thinking that I'd have to explain to him it was a Tesla, built in Fremont, CA, it was all electric, etc. I was ready. I've had the car four months and have a lot of basic answers. No matter what he threw at me, I was ready with factual info that I've gotten from the posts on these forums, and experience and reading everything I can about the car. He yelled over, "How do you get to the 405 South." Tourist!

kevinf311 | June 11, 2013

Welp, looks like I'm going to have to get mp3 copies of F-Zero (maybe F-Zero X) track music to play when I'm driving around. I'll just have to remember that I can't ram other cars off into the abyss!

asim77 | June 11, 2013

@Richard haha, yeah, if you are in LA and don't know where the 405 is at all times, you are a tourist FoSho.

@kevin I know!

George with SacEV | June 12, 2013

It is just not fair. Our Model S was delivered last week, but it was received at our house by our neighbor, as we are still in WARSAW, POLAND for another 4 weeks! I get to see pictures of our multicoat red, 85kW Model S resting in our garage next to our Crystal Red 2011 Chevy Volt, but our neighbor gets to take it out a couple Times over the next month before we even get to touch the wheel.

8 = (((

OP, sorry for hijacking your thread too. I needed to respond to a question.
You'll like the opti-coat. When professionally done, it is beautiful. I had them do my wife's car a week before mine. She was glad to use her X5 as a guinea pig. It needs less car washes because less stuff sticks on it. When I washed it, it was easier to wipe off. Just the best stuff IMO. With that known, I brought my new Tesla straight from delivery to the detailer for opti-coat. Yeah, it sucked not to have my Tesla the first night.

I'm getting the Tesla tinted today. Again, I researched all the brands and IMO the Spectra Photosync film is the best stuff.
Here's a link where they have comparison videos against limo tint and ceramic tint.
My second choice would have been Huper Optik ceramic 30.

Stockholm996TT | June 12, 2013

Asim77, did you get the car on 19", or 21" wheels? If 19" (I assume on all season tires), any comments on the handling vs. your previous M3?
