Autopilot price reduced to $2000 until July 1st 2020.
Is this reduction found in the Tesla App?
Found it in Twitter just now - Musk posted this today 6-21-20:
Enabling basic Tesla Autopilot via Tesla in-app purchase is reduced to $2k until July 1
That explains why the upgrade page freezes on my app and on the website. I have AP, looking for a discount on FSD. Hey, I can hope
P upgrade for me sounds to be around the next quarter....
would love that
Elon (Tweet) Reminder that Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) price goes up by $1k on July 1st
Oh well. 7 or 8 is essentially the same decision
He also tweeted: This would be a good time to upgrade to FSD, as it goes up by $1k on July 1. We could make it $7k to upgrade to FSD until July 1 (even if you don’t have basic Autopilot). Does that sound good?
Wife and I have 2 M3's. One is a 2018 LR RWD. One is a 2019 SR (Not Plus). Love them both. Just bought AP for $3000 on 5/23 for the 2018. Opinions on getting a price adjustment to $2000?
I have been waiting to upgrade to AP for my 2018 M3P. Here we go, $2000 is fair people. I'm doing it next week. This car & company is pretty much amazing.
@ jamisonhughes13, not likely. As Musk has said before when this has been asked, would you pay Tesla the difference if the price went up? : )
In my account I see $2k for AP for my SR+. The cheapest I've seen before (right after 3/19 purchase) was $2500.
I paid 3200€ for basic auto-pilot back in the day ($3600).
I paid that weeks before before they decided to include basic AP in the price.
Yeah, I did purchase AP even if price was very steep because "AP PRICES WILL ALWAYS BE INCREASING"...
I think Tesla would make a bunch of $$ if they offered guaranteed EAP for $2000. The could cap it at 200 people or something.
@davec: EAP has been gone for around 16 months and isn’t coming back.
I bought Mid Range back in March and opted not buy AP then. the new price reduction looks appealing. Folks who have Autopilot, do you recommend it? I dont drive much on highways and my commute is 30 min but would like to have it on occasional trips. Do TACC and Autosteer work well without FSD? I know for sure FSD is not worth for me.
EAP = early access program (I think that's what it's called)
I have Enhanced Auto Pilot. Didn't pull trigger on discounted FSD a year or so ago... wish I would have. Upgrading from my unhanded auto pilot to FSD is $4,000. I would do for $2,000. In part because I'm on hardware 2.5 and would really like to have 3.0
If I could get FSD on a new Model Y at $2000 I would be ready to make the upgrade from my Model 3. But the extra $5000, especially after I already bought FSD for my Model 3, is too much.
I just keep hoping that someday they will let us transfer FSD from one car to another. I bet they would sell more cars.
"Enabling basic Tesla Autopilot via Tesla in-app purchase is reduced to $2k until July 1"
Um, what is BASIC Autopilot?????
Never mind, this is for those with no Autopilot. For a second, I thought this was another fire sale for FSD. (Have on our 3, MY coming this week ordered without FSD.) Darn.
Spin the wheel, grab the deal!
FSD should transfer for owners to their next car. Case made well here in my opinion:
So anyone who knows this youtuber knows he’s a good guy. Loves and supports Tesla. Heck he’s even a fellow South African with Elon! But here in 7 minutes he does do a rant (or at least what he called a rant; to me it was more gentle annoyance) about why fsd should transfer to another car.
The rant should be against the guy's insurance company not against Tesla.
@MyRedM3 I highly recommend basic AP for $2K - I bought LR AWD in 2018 with no EAP, no FSD. I added basic AP for $2K then FSD for $3K more in March 2019.
For me Basic AP (TACC and Autosteer) takes a lot of drudgery out of long highway driving and in some situations like poor visibility due to rain, it can 'see' lane dividing lines better than I can. By not focusing on keeping my car in lane I can focus on the big picture of driving like awareness of position and speed of other vehicles around me etc. and less mental fatigue and more alertness makes for safer driving. I don't feel it's very useful for getting on the highway for just a couple of exits unless in stop and start traffic, and it can be useful on non-highway local roads too.
For me the FSD added lane changes by activating the turn signal, Navigate on Autopilot, stop signs and traffic light aware driving in the city, and Hardware 3.0 upgrade. That was worth $3K for me, whether or not a higher price is worth it may vary by driving situation, how long you plan to keep the car, and other factors.
@rxlawdude Basic AP is TACC and Autosteer, as opposed to EAP/Enhanced Autopilot
@rxlawdude sorry I did not read your second post!
I pulled the trigger...bought it last night for my SR model 3. Good deal.
Does basic AP change lanes when the turn signal is activated? Asking for a friend.
@ODWms - No. You'll need FSD for that.
Also, does basic AP gets HW2.5 to be upgraded to to HW3?
You have to purchase FSD to get upgraded to HW3. AP will not get you a hardware upgrade.
@docsling..now hit that button and buy FSD too! haha
So to change lanes with AP Autosteer you have to interrupt AP, manually change lanes then engage AP again? I purchased my 2018 LR AWD M3 in November 2018 without EAP and am considering it. It just seems like a lot of money for little functionality (Autosteer/Sophisticated Cruise Control).
“ So to change lanes with AP Autosteer you have to interrupt AP, manually change lanes then engage AP again?”
Yes. Although in the transition, TACC is still active
@ksrehman, thank you for the recommendation. I'll pull the plug. I wish autolane change was included but oh well, there is no end to what we want...
Btw, you got a great price for AP+FSD. I bought MR in March 2019 and at that time the price was $3K for AP and $5 or 6K for FSD while placing the order.
Thanks lbowroom for the feedback.
Posted on another thread, but I'll post here, too. Last night I bit on the offer and paid the $2K for AP. Took the car out this morning to test it out. I am probably the outlier here, but after putting it through its paces, I have decided that it's not for me. I am retired and have no daily commute, and actually do most of my driving on city streets and highways - - very small percentage of driving on freeways. When testing AP function on non-access controlled roads (e.g. Santiago Canyon Road in OC for those who know the area), I was alarmed at how the car responded to lane markings. My grandson was with me for the trial, and he was frankly scared to death. I know that Tesla says that AP is designed for use only on freeways and other similar access-controlled roadways, so was not surprised that the car had some issues with curves and road markings on this type of highway. I also took it on the freeway (I-5 in south OC), and found the car did just fine. I was somewhat disappointed that the car would "kick" out of AP when I signaled and performed a lane change on the freeway, but know that, based on other's comments, that would be the case. It forced me to have to re-initiate TACC and auto steer each time.
It is probably a very valuable feature for those who have significant freeway commutes, and if I were in that category I would most likely keep it. However, for me it did not seem that, for the amount I would likely feel comfortable using AP in my mostly non-freeway driving, that it is worth the $2000 investment. Call me weird, but I am going to cancel the purchase within the allotted 48 hr. cancellation period. It was great to actually try it out, though - - thank you Tesla!
I recently paid to upgrade to FSD on my 2018 LR RWD,. I never saw it update. How do I know if it is now FSD?
Does anyone if the car require recalibration after adding AP?
No. Just drive for a few miles.
I didn’t see any need for calibration. Worked right out off the box.
How much it is today to upgrade from EAP to FSD? I have a email from Tesla.com in 6/24/2020 they offer upgrade for $3000 not $2000 what Elon Musk was tweet in 6/21/2020.

It just seems like a lot of money for little functionality (Autosteer/Sophisticated Cruise Control).
You're wrong about that. Particularly on a longer drive.
I've driven my P3D to Vegas twice from the Bay Area. I would've been tired when I got there. Instead I was fresh & ready to party thanks to Basic AP. Totally worth $2k
I bought it on 6/24 for resale value only. I am never going to use it, but somebody will. I thought the price was right.
