Safety disconnect for wall charger?

Safety disconnect for wall charger?

Is it needed?

I had Mr. Electric out to give me a quote and as in the previous thread, installation of a 100amp 240v circuit for HPWC is $611. But the guy tells me it is necessary to install the safety disconnect also for another $570.78. I am a title & escrow sale manager and I know ALMOST everything to do with real estate, but electric outlets is like foreign to me. So any help in educating me on this subject would greatly appreciated.

PS just got notified by tesla my delivery date from July 23rd got pushed up to the 17th... Yes it's TOMORROW baby !!!!

Mr. Electric should be called Shady Electric. They quoted me a $5,000 job to install a 50A circuit that my trusted electrician quoted at $350-$500. Unless there is a specific code requirement in your community, there should not be a need for any "safety disconnect". It sounds like Mr. Electric wants to Mr. Rip You Off... :)

Go to http://www.teslamotors.com/charging and select HPWC. Everything your electrician needs to know is on the spec sheet there.

A safety disconnect is not a bad thing... Code may require it for high amperage. I have one and think it was a great investment. I don't have to worry about parasite draw from the connector.

Is the cost sound reasonable?

Colasec - did you take delivery?
