In AZ theres about a 2% difference in city taxes, if I could have the car delivered to a cabin in Pine. How does Tesla calculate sales tax delivery center zip or home?
There's a 2% sales tax difference in city for you? I'd venture to guess that WOULD matter so get it at the other cheaper place. If you're going out of state, then the tax is based on home. I bought in PA but live in DE so I pay DE associated fees but not any PA. Shoot them or your delivery specialist an email to find out for sure.
for me...i saved 1.5% in sales tax by registering the tesla at my rental property that's 10 minutes away from my current resident...as long as you have access to that property..you're set...
once you get your registration and license plate...go to your local DMV and do a change of address....to your current address.
i did that...save me 1.5% in sales tax.
The way sales tax on new car purchases is calculated varies by state. Unlike many other states where it is based on the sales tax rate at the car's registration address, in Arizona it is based on the sales tax rate in affect where the car is purchased: https://www.valleychevy.com/if-i-buy-a-car-in-arizona-how-much-will-i-ha... Unlike California, Arizona also does not tax the value of a trade-in, which lowers the sales tax paid on the new car.
In Calif, it is street address of buyer that determines the tax %
Where I live we have no sales tax, but Tesla doesn't have an office here. So, unless they deliver to my house instead of a neighboring state I would have to pay sales tax. In which case I'll have to decide how much I want a Model 3. I'm hoping they can straighten out the issue.
king - Are you sure they don't do it based on registration address? Buddy of mine in college in NY got a new car and since he had it registered in his home state of Oregon he didn't have to pay sales tax.
I haven't received the final price paperwork yet, I'm hoping they fix it once it gets closer to delivery.
