Side Mirror Defroster

Side Mirror Defroster

Is it true that the side mirror defroster cannot be activated unless the weather is zero degree Celsius?

Bighorn | October 28, 2016

Never heard that one. Did you read that in the manual?

adamslighting | October 28, 2016

I asked a Tesla "service guy" about testing the mirrors, and he told me that I can't activate them unless the outside temperature is freezing (0 degrees Celsius). I've tried turning them on, but they don't response.

I thought they went on with the rear defroster. Is there a newer option?

adamslighting | October 29, 2016

The rear defroster is available on all MS/X. The side mirrors defrosters are only available on Teslas with the "cold weather package".

I don't believe that's correct @adamslighting. I don't have the subzero package and my side view mirrors defrost. They come on with the rear defroster. And it's also a rear defogger. So it doesn't make sense that it only comes on below freezing.

there's a manual????

adamslighting, where did you get that info from? I am in CT, don't have the cold weather package and my outside mirrors defrost when I turn on the rear defroster.

If you don't know something as being absolute fact, you should either not state something as fact or preface it by saying "I believe". Many people researching on getting a Tesla, come here for facts and figures and obviously want facts versus speculation.

This is a fact as per Tesla Toronto. For owners with a subzero winter package, the side mirrors will not be heated unless the temperature goes to zero celsius (or below). This will prevent wasted energy when drivers turn on the heated mirrors during above freezing temperatures. This makes sense, but I have yet to substantiate this fact. I am looking for drivers here who have the subzero winter package to verify this fact with me.

Refer to the bottom of page 40 of the current (10/17/2016) owners manual.

@Made in CA - Where did you find the 10/17/2016 owners manual? I had the 10/17 release show up in my account for a few days and then it seems to vanish such that I do not have any owners manual in my account. I've seen others comment about not having a current manual in their account as well. Fortunately I like having local copies, so I downloaded it when I first spotted it, but if you've found a link to it online, I'm sure others would appreciate having it.

And yes, I know any owner has it and can access it on the main screen of their car, but I like many appreciate not having to go out to the garage to read it when I want to check something.

Current NA owner's manual (10-17-2016), page 102, item 6...

Can we please have side mirror heating when turning on the car heating via the Tesla app? - At cold temperatures it turns on the rear window heating but NOT the side mirror heating which is quite a nuisance.

Thank you .. !

Yes the same for me, forced to press the rear defrost directly on the screen, thanking you TMS P85 2013
