USB splitter

USB splitter

For those of you using USB thumb drives for music, can you test to see if it still works if attached to a USB splitter? I’m currently using both ports for NOMAD wireless charging... with upcoming V9 release and dashcam video recording option, it would be nice to have an extra USB port in the front...

I just bought 2 splitters, one for each front port, of an unusual design.

They support one USB port purely for power and the other for full functionality. My intention is to attach a USB stick with music to one, a dashcam USB stick to the other and still have both front charging ports available.

On a quick test last night, everything was working (no dashcam test yet), but I'll need a longer drive test to determine whether too much power is being diverted from the charging port.

The model being tried is:

Says red port is for charging only, but can’t charge IOS devices. Wonder whether that still applies to Wireless charging via NOMAD? | October 4, 2018

You can always add 2 or more USB charging ports with the 12V power connector. Lots of options, and many now have 2.1 amp charging for phones with fast charging. Note that fast charging is incompatible with data - so you can have one or the other, but not both.

Interesting product! My guess is that "does not charge iOS devices" means that it charges too slowly to keep up with drain while using the iPhone. If the charger is providing X units of power, and the phone is consuming Y units of power, then X - Y would be how fast your phone will charge while being used. If X is less than Y, then the phone will not charge, but the battery will drain more slowly than it would otherwise. When the phone is not turned on, Y should be small and the phone will probably charge.

Regarding the NOMAD wireless pad for Model 3 cars, my guess is that it will work okay since it has its own internal battery (the USB port charges the battery, and the battery charges the phone). If the USB port is not providing enough power, the battery will slowly drain while the phone is charging, but the battery can store 6,000 mAh (which is almost enough to charge two iPhone XS max phones from 0 to 100%).

Just what I was looking for, M3BlueGeorgia.

On my quick test, it was charging my Nexus 6P (Android) while playing music. Android didn't warn about "slow charging" as it does sometimes.

The true test will be to drive and ensure the phone charges while music is playing. :-)

Have any of you tested whether the "data connection" side works for dashcam video? I presume as long as it can run a flash drive, it can record video, right?

I bought a power/data USB splitter and the power works to charge my android phone while the data side works fine with my dashcam USB. I read that the power only side will not charge an iPhone, but I haven't tested it yet. This product:

I need this info too. Please share the model that is confirmed to work for iPhone charging and dashcam recording.

If you're testing something out, please wait until you've confirmed that the solution works.

Thank you.
