Why not a joystick?

Why not a joystick?

Given the almost complete lack of knobs and buttons for control or adjustment, and that the M3 has the ability to steer the front wheels electronically, why does the vehicle have a steering wheel instead of a joystick? Similarly, since the vehicle can control propulsion and braking electronically, why does it have brake and accelerator pedals instead of letting the driver also control those through the joystick? If Elon's expectation is that eventually the driver will just sit there and enjoy the ride, then why have controls that will just get in the way of doing that?

Why not a tiller?

Why not a choke?

Why not a clutch?

Why not a rudder?

Why not a sail?

Because it's a car, not an Atari 2600.

I say, here is a little peninsula, and here is a viaduct leading over to the mainland.

Alright, why a duck?

I'm not playing "Ask Me Another," I say that's a viaduct.

Alright! Why a duck? Why that...why a duck? Why a no chicken?

Well, I don't know why a no chicken; I'm a stranger here myself.

All I know is that it's a viaduct. You try to cross over there a chicken and you'll find out why a duck.

I presume there are still laws that the brakes and steering still work in the total absence of power.
