bump just finished a batch of charge port door key fobs

For those new to the forums, I just finished a batch of charge port fobs for opening your charge port when not using a Tesla charger. Send your name and address to me on TMC and I will get one out to you. If you like it, keep it and send me a $20 by return mail; if not, just return the fob. US only please.

For those of you that are not familiar with this item, - its great.
It's handy. Take advantage of his offer. Its worth twice the $$$.

CU OPEC | 4 août 2014

Now I'm curious. How do they work? Is it an RF or IR signal? What frequency/code? Is it an open standard?

NKYTA | 4 août 2014

It's also so powerful that it opens MS charge ports in a three block radius.

;-)

Fins | 5 août 2014

What dose it look like

lolachampcar | 5 août 2014

Uses Polycase five button key fob plastics (all buttons do the same thing) to house a SiLabs RF chip (same one Tesla uses in their charge handles). There are two different frequencies for US and Europe so it only works in the US. There is an EU member that has done fobs for that side of the pond.

I have it tie wrapped to my J1772 handle of my OpenEVSE in my garage so that I do not have to remember to open the charge port door with the screen before exiting (old brain :) ).

lolachampcar | 5 août 2014

To be clear, all this does is pop open the charge port door. It will not do anything for the doors or otherwise accessing/starting the car.

Bighorn | 5 août 2014

Oh great, my car's been hacked:)

nisigns | 5 août 2014

Why USA only, what about us across the pond?

J.T. | 5 août 2014

@nisigns From the original post There is an EU member that has done fobs for that side of the pond.

lolachampcar | 5 août 2014

EU does different frequency so my fob will not work "over there" :)

nisigns | 5 août 2014

@J.T. Thanks, i will try and track that thread down

@lolachampcar That makes sense then

Thanks for the clearing up of the fog in the brain :)

J.T. | 5 août 2014

@nisigns My apologies. It wasn't in the first post, it was 5 posts down in this thread.

CU OPEC | 5 août 2014

Hmm ok. I'm thinking a "hack" that would pop the charging port when holding down the middle (unlock) button on the original remote could be useful...

Steve_W | 6 août 2014

I sent my contact info to you yesterday at TMC via PM. Thanks for making this.

Jolinar | 6 août 2014

do you know who makes the EU version? How can I get one and how much it will cost me? :-)

keysilver | 29 août 2014

@lolachampcar:

I sent you a PM through TMC a bit ago..want to be sure you got the message from tc911

Tom

lolachampcar | 8 décembre 2014

Yep Tom. Yours will go out today along with a BUNCH of other ones. Thank You!

CEYA GAS | 8 décembre 2014

No, thank you!!

lolachampcar | 8 décembre 2014

Wow, a bucket load of orders..... Neat.

I did the project with some others (in Europe) over on TMC for the forum and for fun. It turned out to be fun and it looks like members are making use of it. It does not get any better than that.

lolachampcar | 8 décembre 2014

Be careful though. I went down to the Dania Service Center to show off my new creation and spent the next twenty minutes closing all the charge doors in the showroom, service area and new car prep building next door! I dialed down the power amp as much as I could but it still has some umph :)

Thanks lola!

Stan_Stein | 8 décembre 2014

Lolachampcar, Please send me an e mail at Stan_Stein@hotmail.com. I am interested in getting two of them

lolachampcar | 8 décembre 2014

I got an email from someone asking if the fob would close the new door.

My car is not scheduled to show up until February (was Jan but somehow got pushed) and I have yet to see an auto charge door in the wild. I really have no idea.

I am continuing along under the assumption that new production will still use the same old transmission to open the door. If not, the new MS would not be compatible with the existing Super Charger network or existing charge cables/HPWC. I could be wrong, but I would think this would be one of the last things Tesla would change.

The above said, if you are concerned just hold off getting a fob until the new cars start to ship. I'm sure there will be plenty of intrepid customers that will be testing it long before I get my car.

lolachampcar | 8 décembre 2014

Everyone that sent me an email or PM'd over at TMC has shipped.

I covered this over at TMC but thought it best to repeat here.

USPS requires that I isolate the battery which is why there is a small piece of white paper between the battery and the printed circuit board. I really was not trying to be sadistic and force everyone to deal with un-snapping then reassembling those plastic cases.

Also, there is an alignment tang on the translucent plastic housing half to black plastic membrane separator ring. I try to put the separator on the switch membrane with the right orientation but would suggest you check this during assembly.

Thank you to-
Ritesh and
scdebaun

Thank you to-

lolachampcar | 28 décembre 2014

It seems Tesla has enabled opening the charge port door with the Tesla fob. Anyone that has asked for one of mine over the past week or so (as everything else has shipped) please check to see if the Tesla functionality meets your needs and let me know if you still want a fob.

Thanks,
Bill

JPPTM | 29 décembre 2014

Bill--

Can you explain? New firmware? Retroactive to all existing S?

I have not seen any info about this here or at TMC.

Thx.

Bighorn | 29 décembre 2014

JPPTM
2.0 firmware allows all cars this function. Hold trunk button 2ish seconds and port opens, trunk does not.

dortor | 29 décembre 2014

FYI - the new charge port doors on the P85D can be opened "by hand" simply by pushing on the tip of the door - so a fob/button is no longer necessary - not sure if this is a general feature of all newer charge port doors or only on the self closing ones on the P85D.

JPPTM | 29 décembre 2014

Bighorn--thx. Will check/test but I am on an older build of firmware.

Bighorn | 29 décembre 2014

soon

JPPTM | 30 décembre 2014

...soon...indeed...
Just got my nav maps update yesterday, so for me firmware to 2.0 will probably be a while (...also soon).

lolachampcar | 9 janvier 2015

Thank you Donald R.

jbunn | 9 janvier 2015

Always wanted one built in to my J1772 adapter, since I often forget...

What's the keypress sequence on the Fob? I'll go try it out.
