Pivoting Front Seats

Pivoting Front Seats

Front seats could be mounted on a circular tack for pivoting.

Pros:

1. Could turn 180 degrees to right to engage in conversation with passengers or to attend to children or pick up an object(s) for delivery.
2. Could turn about 65 degrees to left while checking for oncoming traffic or for easier entry into sitting driving position.
3. Could turn 180 degrees to right so that one could walk in and sit down, then pivot back around into driving position, which might for some be an easier entry to driving position.

Cons:

1. Some restriction(s) would be necessary on use this feature while vehicle is moving to ensure safety features, such as side inflation, would work properly.

Additional cons:
- Price
- The extra space required for these seats would take away useable cabin space.

The utility of this feature would be very limited without a concomitant self-driving auto-pilot.

I support: Could turn about 65 degrees to left while checking for oncoming traffic or for easier entry into sitting driving position.

OK, this might be way too optimistic, yet what I'd really like is to be able to take advantage of the gulf-wings doors, the ability to stand in the car, to be able to enter the front seats like a fighter pilot coming down into a jet's pilot seat. There have been quite a few comments about the difficulty of entering aerodynamic cars--with difficult if not painful entry--in other threads of this forum.

I'm sure the NHSTA may have an opinion regarding safety, airbags, etc. Afterall, this is an automobile not your living room.
