When are you going to update functions on this forum?

We need member search, topic search, and date search. There are so many post by the same persons all the time. We cannot get to any thing new and prominent. Please check out other forums to see how they are set.

Thanks.

I'd also like the ability to up/down vote a post and be able to sort a thread by the number of votes.

And to be fair, Tesla, you could at least come up to the level of the forums on Chevrolet.com, Honda.com, Toyota.com, and any major car manufacturers' private website...

Err... Umm... Never mind.

(The fact that Tesla even HAS a forum is a testament to its incredible uniqueness.)

Dare I say, using "real" forum software instead of this, um, well, whatever this is, would solve all the problems...

Not happy with "this" then try "that" http://www.teslamotors.com/forum/forums/tesla-motors-forum-search
or http://www.volkerize.com/
Just search tools other members created and are happy to share. I found them by reading hours and hours of threads on this site.

Tesla- please don't waste anytime on developing a forum. Please put all resources to making sure you continues to improve the model s and bring the model x to the market sooner.

J.T. | 6 août 2014

@socalsam There is no "sooner" there is only "soon", which also answers the OP's question.

Drakester347 | 6 août 2014

I doubt the marketing department/Web developers are the same people engineering the Model S and X so they could probably do both at the same time.

It's not a ton of resources - it's one dude. I have a bunch of friends that do that type of work and I know we all probably know somebody that does web work.

You hire one guy. He doesn't even need to work for Tesla. You hire a contractor and give him a 3-month contract to implement current forum software. He customizes it, verifies all of the security patches and vulnerabilities and then manages it for three months. You set up three long-time users that all of us hate and make them moderators and they police everything to keep it civil.

Tesla pays for the licenses and software for the new forum, the server space, and the contractor's fees. They're out maybe $30K which is nothing to them.

It's obviously not a priority and I'm cool with that. It's just a forum and I've been able to find what I need and communicate my problems and issues just fine.

@Thomas N You set up three long-time users that all of us hate

It's whom all of us hate

And I have no idea about whom you are talking. :-)

Thomas N. | 6 août 2014

Well now I have two of the three moderators picked out.

;)

Nobody likes me. Everybody hates me.
I think I am going to go eat worms.

J.T. | 6 août 2014

I'm afraid of worms, Roxanne!

I feel like an ugly step-child.

Thomas N. | 6 août 2014

You learn something every day. I would have never guessed you were a step-child.

Brian H | 7 août 2014

He's not. He's just a backwards Tesla S owner.

Unfortunately, most of the well known, familiar types of bulletin board forum software is very easily hacked. Since your login to these fora may also be tied to your financial information and ordering data, it is best not to implement those publicly known pieces of software here. If you must use such features, you can go to Tesla Motors Club, or start your own enthusiast website using Disqus, Wordpress, or one of the various PHP bulletin board variants. Tesla Motors must make sure that security is a priority here. Whenever you make things easier for customers, you run the risk of making things easier for criminals as well.

@Red Sage Whenever you make things easier for customers, you run the risk of making things easier for criminals as well. And we have to allow for the fact that the two sets might intersect. :-)
