Australia is on the cusp of accelerating the uptake of EVs, but there are issues with no PICKUP TRUCK (UTE) AVAILABLE.

Didnt intend the caps, but so what?

The sitting AUS govt released the budget last night. Actually the polls indicate a change from Liberal to Labor, in an election which is likely to be called for May, so the budget is most likely meaningless.
The Labor opposition has declared an all out attack on energy, promoting EVs to be by 2025, 50% used by govt, and by 2030, mostly adopted by us sheep.

The issue being debated in the press, is that that is all well and good but the most popular, most vehicle sales currently are for utes, (pickups) with the Toyota Hilux outselling anything else, sedans, SUVs, hatches.
The problem is that there are no vehicles available to replace the Hilux and other utes from Nissan, Mazda, Ford, GM, Tesla or anyone else.
We need quick upramping of Tesla PUT, Rivian, Workhorse, and of course VW, MB, Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Hyundai, KIA, Volvo, BYD et al.

There are no obvious current solutions.

Tesla is working as fast as they can (which is a whole lot faster than the legacy makers). We hope to see a Tesla pickup truck shown this summer, but it may be 2021 before it becomes obtainable in the USA. Longer for RHD countries :(
