Charge port at front of vehicle

As I understood it, the charge port location on the Model S was chosen partly due to the proximity to the onboard chargers.

However, a substantial portion of the population including my wife doesn't like backing into a parking space (yet the latter is often necessary with the Model S at Superchargers).

All you have to do is look at a parking lot to see which parking preference is by far the preferred one.

Model X really should offer an option of front end charge port location.

I have mixed thoughts on this one. Since most people charge at home in a garage it is extremely convenient to step out of the drivers door and plug in at the current left taillight location. But then we have two cars so the car on the right side, mine, has to back into the garage to make it easy to plug in without dragging cords around. Backing in works fine for me since my normal routine is to pop the rear hatch, place my items in, the walk to the plug and unplug then walk to the drivers door that opens the right direction for easy access.

I think the location was selected to minimize large cable runs to the front of the car.

We replaced two front plug Leafs with two Tesla's and have adjusted to the different location with little problem. My wife, who parks on the left side, has never plugged in anywhere but home in 20,000 miles so the plug location is perfect for her. Step out, plug in, and done. The charge cord plug is hanging close to the left tail light. Very convenient.

I had my HPWC installed so it is mostly intended for backing in, which is what I prefer. I live on a hill, and backing up a hill to me is easier than backing down a hill regardless of cameras due to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.

I prefer 'dingless fancy parking'.

FYI, instructions for constructing parking spaces can be very specific.
