Replacement Key Tesla

Replacement Key Tesla

Hi guys!

Just three days ago I lost my key car. Has anyone had to replace a Tesla key? What is the process/cost? I just lost one, so I want to get a second before I lose the spare. I was searching on the Internet and I chat with some companies which are doing key replacement in Perth like or But I'm not sure about what to do.
Any suggestions, similar experiences or recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi Jordi, Car Locksmiths might not be able to get your replacement key for Tesla. The key might be programmed so best to go with the dealer but it might cost you a bit more.

If you lost a Model 3 key card, you can order one online from Tesla for $25 (USD), but they’re currently sold out. If you lost a Model S/X key fob, you’ll need to get that from a Tesla service center, because I don’t see those online.

Tesla’s don’t have keys

Unlike most cars, the Tesla Model 3 doesn’t have a key. In fact, you don’t even get a key fob with the car like other Teslas. Tesla has designed the experience around the smartphone app, which supports passive entry (the doors automatically unlock) and remote operation. The included key cards don’t do that, either. You have to physically tap the card on the door to open it and on the dash to start the car. Naturally, many Model 3 owners have gotten used to just relying on the phone to access their vehicles.
The issue with Tesla is if their server is down then we all be locked out and it is not fixed on time then we are in trouble
I am not sure about Auto locksmiths I checked with one in Brisbane who specialises in German cars he said he cant programme a Tesla

I think the OP (Jordi) said he wanted to replace a lost key card. Like I said, you can order them online when they’re back in stock. Since the key card is only a backup it’s not urgent. No locksmith required whether it’s a key card or key fob.
