"Chipping" or Enhancing the Model S

There must be a way to make the Model S even faster?! Just bought one with all the options, and whilst the car is quick, there must be a way to make it quicker?!

Put in a rocket motor in the back, plenty of room. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Floor it from a Red light next to a Prius!

ICE have margin dedicated to longevity. This would include mixture, boost limits, torque limits, etc. "Chipping" simply trades some of that margin for more performance.

Applying that same process to MS and you will either be increasing temperatures or drawing more current from the battery. Either of these things will shorten life. The way you learn how much is by crossing over lines (damaging things).

ICE are well understood and can be serviced by tuners as they learn. MS is .......................

+1 lolachampcar
It's not as simple as popping in a chip like ICE cars.
To make a Model S go faster would involve changing out he motor itself. This has been done on previous "electric cars". Over time there will be faster motors. There will also be higher capacity batteries so you can change them out to for longer range. Everything will come at a cost though.

Try 60" wheels.

If you could hack the software in the car..... The sky is the limit!

My comments were based on reflashing the inverter code.

I doubt Tesla is pushing the drive inverter to the limit, but how close is the question. Being such a small sales opportunity, I doubt we will see many aftermarket options for a while.

ICE cars have to design in some safety margin for engine life and more importantly emission for the entire life of the car. There are probably more room to tweak than MS which does not have these concerns.

You can do that kind of fixed-font art without periods using <pre>.

@mikefa

Hey, the Roadster Sport does it in 3.7. Thu-rilling. Feels a lot faster.
