100D Now Available

100D Now Available

For those that have been waiting - it is over. The 100D is now being offered, and just for $3,000 more than the 90D!! I really could have used that 100D, but also really wanted the car last year and for tax purposes. Just missed out though. Wonder if they will offer a trade out and at what price if so :) Almost 300 mile range for the X! (295)

Silver2K | 20 janvier 2017

1st!

betty_yee | 20 janvier 2017

I was waiting for the 100D as well. ☹️ But, wanted the unlimited Supercharger access.

Silver2K | 20 janvier 2017

you missed my prediction then!

the 100d will come out after free supercharging is dropped. :)

inconel | 20 janvier 2017

This is great for people who currently have a 90D on order and not in production yet

msbains54 | 20 janvier 2017

@inconel would people select away the 90D and give up supercharging at the same time? 70km more range

MasterT | 20 janvier 2017

NICE!

nrelia | 20 janvier 2017

Have a 90D order in place and grace period expires on 22 nd. 90D was already more than my daily need but still thinking about 100D. Wondering if it will add to resale value as I will be of the few select ones to have unlimited supercharging on 100 D.

Triggerplz | 20 janvier 2017

@Burdogg yes that P100 gonna be real nice, I guess I'll just have to say for 8 months I had the fastest suv from 0 to 60 in the world :-)

info | 20 janvier 2017

I currently have my order in for the X90D. I don't believe they started production yet. I'M inquiring regarding the up grade to 100D, worth the extra $3,000.00 + $500.00 penalty. We'll see how this plays out. Thanks for the scoop

jRoGville | 20 janvier 2017

Have you looked at the numbers? On the Model S, there is a 20 mile range improvement over the performance, But on the X, there is only a 6 mile improvement. Should there be that much of a difference?

Shake | 20 janvier 2017

Same boat, 90d on order and not in production, asking to change this morning as well to the 100d. Surprised it is only 3k more, similar to the 85-90 upgrade when that first became available. Seems like a no brainer.

info | 20 janvier 2017

Just got off the phone with my sales rep. He advised me that I could make the change but would lose the free supercharging. My next step is to call Tesla customer service @ 888-518-3752 and BITCH. I suggest anyone in the same boat do the same. Maybe we, as loyal clients can change their collective minds.

lilbean | 20 janvier 2017

I think that's the point though. They want to phase out free supercharging. Silver was right.

info | 20 janvier 2017

I called customer service and my complaints seemed to land on deaf ears. They advised me they had not received any other calls regarding the issue of the upgrade to 100D and the free supercharging.

PedanticOne | 20 janvier 2017

I have an email into my DS. Let's see if he corroborates this.

Alex707 | 20 janvier 2017

Doubtful they will let orders change to 100d and keep free supercharging. There's a reason they released it after the end of free supercharging.

PedanticOne | 20 janvier 2017

I don't really get it though, because the rules were: order before Jan 15 and get it. And SC is based on the car, not the equipment on the car. That said, if they say no SC, I'm not going to fight about it.

tommyalexandersb | 20 janvier 2017

I'm waiting for a call back on whether I can upgrade or not. If I can upgrade, but lose the free supercharging, do you guys think it's worth it?

Shake | 20 janvier 2017

I don't see why they wouldn't honor the free supercharging. The upgrade will cost $500 more than it would for someone who waited and skipped the free supercharging. The 100d car will probably end up supercharging LESS from a time stand point due to the battery size and increased range than a 90d would. Win-win right? What am I missing?

RonPrx | 20 janvier 2017

Just sent an email to my DS and Sales rep as well requesting to be moved to the 100D. I have yet to receive a VIN number although I confirmed build on 1/3. Agree that orders prior to 1/15 should continue to have free SC despite making this change.

Waldek | 20 janvier 2017

I have my Model X on order that I turned in on January 14 and it confirms tomorrow. So technically I can make changes until tomorrow to avoid $500 change fee. Since 100D is available starting today I was hoping to adjust my order and change it to 100D while keeping my free supercharger option... No such option 100D when I go to edit design for my order... I reached out to Tesla web-chat... and here is answer :( I hope they change their mind and let those of us whose cars are still not in production to make change and get 100D while keeping free supercharger..... I see we have similar answers from a few sources... keep us posted if anyone is able to make the change to 100D and keep free supercharger... here is what I wrote and answer from Tesla:

Me: I have an order for my Model X 90D that I turned in on January 14. I can see that today 100D is available for order however I can't see option to edit my design to change my order to 100D - please help. My order confirms tomorrow. I would like to keep my free supercharger option as I ordered before January 15 and I would like to change to 100D from 90D. Please advise and help to make changes in my order.

Alvin: Hello this is Alvin with Tesla
I would highly recommend keeping your original order.
100D is not going to be available with the free supercharging.

tommyalexandersb | 20 janvier 2017

So if they say you can upgrade but you will lose the free supercharging, would you still go with the 100D, and why or why not? I'm trying to make a quick decision.

Waldek | 20 janvier 2017

a little update from the chat:

Me: oh, that's not nice... my order confirms tomorrow and 100D is available so why you guys disallow us to take advantage of new battery option 100D while keeping our free supercharger option? it is not fair... :slightly_frowning_face:

Alvin: What would that extra range mean for you anyhow? You can supercharge for life, for free :slightly_smiling_face:

Waldek | 20 janvier 2017

I am trying to make up my mind... but if it is the case I think I am going to keep 90D on order with free supercharging over 100D without... I will try to bitch about this and upgrade to 100D with free supercharger lol :)

RonPrx | 20 janvier 2017

So. Would Tesla rather have us pay an extra $3k for 100D or cancel our order?

Waldek | 20 janvier 2017

more update from chat:

update from chat:

Me: Thank you Alvin... however I still hope there will be option today or tomorrow to upgrade to 100D while still keeping my free supercharger It would be nice to have both... free supercharger and slightly better range to avoid range anxiety while driving long distances

Alvin: Well, I cannot confirm nor deny that at this point though

Me: could you tell me some phone number to call to inquire about this more? I see on Tesla forum that many current order holders that cars did not go to production yet are interested in keeping free supercharger and upgrading to 100D at the same time

Alvin: I would recommend speaking to your sales advisor. I can tell you that our standing policy now is, that will not happen.

Waldek | 20 janvier 2017

I am not sure why they are doing it this route... I really like free supercharger option as I drive a lot and long distance... and for sure 100D would help me out to have no range anxiety at times :) My current Model X is 8 months old and I have 39,000 miles on it already :) free supercharger is no brainer for me with such usage... 100D would be nice for second car :)

tommyalexandersb | 20 janvier 2017

Ok, I just talked to someone at tesla. Other notes about the upgrade: you would lose ventilated seats. The hardware for 100D is different than the 90D and they can't be swapped out. What that means? Idk. But I think it's possible that the cells are different and the cooling system. Meaning, when the upgraded ultra fast Superchargers come out, they might only work with the 100D. Neither I or the tesla guy knew for sure either way. But I'm leaning towards the 90D and free supercharging.

PedanticOne | 20 janvier 2017

OK. I'm starting to understand. If you upgrade, they are not going to tweak your car, they are going to build a new one and inventory your current one. This explains the no supercharger and no ventilated seats.

info | 20 janvier 2017

This isn't the response I received via email from Tesla customer service regarding upgrading to the 100D from my existing x90D that has not made it to production yet:

Good morning JOHN,

We encourage you to keep your existing 90D order. If you would like to upgrade to the new 100D, you would be subject to the new price book which means losing free supercharging.

The upgrade entails
· Paying the difference in battery/trim cost for the 100D upgrade
· Lose unlimited supercharging
· Lose perforates seats (if equipped)
· Subject to option bundles and associated price changes
· Subject to new production and delivery timing

Best,

Mine hasn't entered production. If you want to upgrade and your car has entered production you would also lose your $2,500 deposit.

PedanticOne | 20 janvier 2017

@info your post just backs up what I said: they will build a new car, not tweak your current order. I am now wondering if this is what they do all the time and where inventory cars come from.

info | 20 janvier 2017

On last entry change isn't to is. Can't find the edit button.

PedanticOne | 20 janvier 2017

Ah. Hard to find a button that sadly does not exist :-(

info | 20 janvier 2017

Tesla is unfair in the way they are conducting themselves in this matter. They are starting to look bad in my eyes. They can easily do this. Being stubborn. We are talking about over $100,000.00 purchase here. I wonder if Mercedes or BMW would treat their customers this way? Just saying.

MasterT | 20 janvier 2017

- price difference - of course, new battery
- lose unlimited supercharging - that blows, but I can live with that, not traveling long distance
- lose perforated seats - that really blows, that was one of the options I really need for South Florida.
- ok with the other two conditions

I might jsut stay with the original config of 90, perforated seats, and unlimited supercharging.

PedanticOne | 20 janvier 2017

I'm totally staying with the 90. I also don't want to wait any longer than I've already made myself wait.

info | 20 janvier 2017

I'm staying with my original order. However, if Tesla by any chance changes their position I would jump at the chance to change to the 100D. Not changing my opinion of them though.

PedanticOne | 20 janvier 2017

I just confirmed staying with 90 with my DS. He called and I said "I already know what you're going to tell me" :-)

He also said my current order might have shifted out a bit :-/

tommyalexandersb | 20 janvier 2017

@info +1. Same

MasterT | 20 janvier 2017

I am also staying with my original order 90D with perforated seats and unlimited supercharging (do not care much for the unlimited, but value perforated seats very much though)

nrelia | 20 janvier 2017

not happy about the 100D announcement or at least the timing of it. I am still within the grace period but Sales advisor would not allow to change to 100D and keep unlimited supercharging.

burdogg | 20 janvier 2017

info - we all understand your frustration. This is how Tesla has ALWAYS worked though. They are not like other car companies. They don't wait until Aug or whenever to announce the next year car model, and then wait a whole year later to announce a NEW car model with the new features. They announce them at a whim. You are NOT the first person that this has affected. (Not trying to downplay the frustration, just trying to inform you, this is nothing new). They announced the D version (AWD) and yes, people missed out on that. They announced the new facelift - people missed out on that. I ordered a 70D. A little later, like 1 month, they announce a 75D will be coming out, but all those with 70D just delivered (Not mine) actually can have a software upgrade to unlock to get the 75D now. I missed out on that. The announced AP 2.0. This is HUGE and there were people that took delivery of their car after the announcement and stuck with AP 1.0 with NO way to upgrade.

I could go on, but if you don't realize this is how Tesla works, sorry, the history is there and for the most part, you all knew this is how they work. (Over generalization). Many pushed to the last minute to order to get free supercharging, hoping the 100D would come out before they had to order. It didn't, but many were holding their breath it would come out before their car goes into production and could just change over to that. So you wanted them to NOT be like other car manufactures and change when it is convenient for you, but then when it doesn't work out the way you thought, you are upset that they are now NOT like the other car companies. Other car companies today, would not even be announcing changes to their cars, so don't try to compare, you would be stuck with the car you ordered with them and then in August when they have something greater (sorry though, other car companies don't have much greater happening year to year even), you wouldn't be able to go to them and say - hey, take my car and give me what you just announced and only charge me the difference. (I know a little different here but you can see why comparing car companies to Tesla is a little different)

Last - again, I totally get the frustration. I really, really need the 100D but couldn't wait any longer. I have a stretch of trip that is 220 miles between superchargers. It could be a real stretch to get my X to make that distance in the winter. It also means I have to sit at a supercharger at about 30 miles when I get there and charge clear up tot he 257 max miles which will take forever. That 295 would completely make the trip faster and no range anxiety. I was really hoping for an upgrade path, but looks like no such luck. I just took Delivery Dec 22 - so yes, I missed out because I CHOSE to order when I did. Anyway, you will continue to hate the company but this is nothing new for them. They will continue to disrupt and do things this way. It is the way they get people to buy cars. We say demand levers. They are always adding things to get people off the fence to buy (or take away like Free Supercharging). It is what helps propel this new company to be able to continue to sell cars. Like it or not. If free supercharging was always available - how many of you would have bought when you did? There are several that would not have. It forced people off the fence, like it or not.

Ok, my info session is over, agree or disagree, that is fine, just putting information out there.

Alex707 | 20 janvier 2017

I'd be happy - if they announced this after your grace period, you'd have to pay the $500 to upgrade (assuming they will even let you as they will probably try to dump all the 90 packs right now) and still lose free supercharging. The upgrade to 100d is a no brainer over getting free supercharging in my mind.

skymaster | 20 janvier 2017

Back on July 1st , 2013 is when the first upgrades came out. It was parking sensors and the cold weather package that I really wanted. If I only waited four more months, I could have gotten those features.
Tesla has been playing this game for almost 4 years. When folks barely miss upgrades, they are pissed and bitch.
Personally, I have been waiting for a 100D Model X. Now that the free supercharging is gone, I'm going to hold out for more upgrades. It's difficult to pull the trigger when you have been burned in the past.

burdogg | 20 janvier 2017

I agree skymaster- the business model is not ideal and they must have their reasons. I just have to look at it that I bought my car when I did because it was what I wanted, and I love my car. I have to realize the things are going to continue to improve and come out when ready, not on any given yearly schedule. It is a matter of learning for me, to be happy with what I got, and happy for others that get to benefit from the newer items. I am happy for those that have been waiting for this 100D - they can now get it. I wish I could have, but love my car anyway :)

elguapo | 20 janvier 2017

When will they phase out 90D? Doesn't seem like they need to keep that around for only a $3,000 difference.

To those upset. I get it. As @burdogg said, Tesla hs ALWAYS operated this way. When you buy a Tesla, it willlikelt be outdated within 6 months. It's annoying, but the cars are great.
