I am waiting om my MS due last week of December and am wondering when the change over the model year? When do the 2014 cars start delivery?
January 2, give or take. It's year of completion of production. Means nothing.
2014 cars will have the following new features and options:
* four wheel drive
* 110 kWh battery
* sport front seats
* foldable armrest in rear seats
* lane departure warning system with automatic lane keeping (*)
* blind spot monitor (*)
* smart cruise control (*) (**)
* speed sign recognition (*)
* crash avoidance system (high and low speed) (*) (**)
* rear camera guidelines
* self-parking system
* Android app access using Google Play (***)
* smart LED headlights
* power closing frunk
and, last but not least:
* lighted vanity mirrors
(*) based on Mobileye technology
(**) uses regenerative braking
(***) limited to Tesla approved apps
I may have missed a few, but these will all be there, guaranteed on my scout's honor.
You forgot the hovering option.
For cleaning the carpets.
You're full of crap, @chrisdl...there is NO WAY the Model S will ever have lighted vanity mirrors.
Cr@p, still no more cup holders...
You forgot the espresso machine too. Can I get the 4 wheel drive option retrofitted? ;-)
In all seriousness, the options you see now are the same options that will be available when the year turns to 2014. They go by calendar date for the model year and change the options as they are developed and available. No waiting for a new year for new options.
The main reason some people wait until the new year is for personal financial and tax purposes.
cfOH: Dang! You got me. I thought nobody would notice if I'd sneak those in :)
And firesafe suits. :)
Picture of the firesafe suits:
My VIN shows as a 2013 model, yet my production is slated for 1/6, delivery within 2 weeks after.
The lighted mirrors are an engineering impossibility. No one in our lifetime will be able to figure it out. Our only hope is that we finally get an extraterrestrial and they bring us the solution as trade for beads.
Brian H got it right. Don't worry; be happy.
JaredBanyard: I'm in a similar boat; confirmed my MS two weeks ago, dashboard proceeded to reflect a 2013 VIN. I specifically requested they hold build until I can be assured 2014 ('E' as tenth digit of VIN) and they have assured me it will be so, with mid to late Jan delivery. We all know that the 12/13 and 1/14 cars will be virtually identical, but it is my firm belief that waiting a few more weeks will have positive impact on resale valuation. It's still hard to wait. ;-)
PD......I like it!
In the Tesla world year doesn't mean much. I am glad they don't play the model year marketing hype game.
Add some cheesy chrome trim and call it the new 2014 model.
But I used it's instead of its. I'm so ashamed. \:(
Massaging front seats too
Live update of number of number of free charging stations at SC
Your list is my list of what is needed to keep me happy going forward. This list SHOULD have been included in a car of this price point. How about some storage for my stuff inside the cockpit?
How about front seats that are comfortable and have whip flash protection.
Hopefully Tesla will be a paradigm buster when it comes to model year resale value too. I'm pretty sure that an all-electic will not age nearly as fast as an ICE. I was always skeptical when reading model years for traditional car maufacturers. They have lots of room to play. Tesla is straight forward.
If the date is important for tax reasons or something like that they might be able to issue you a different VIN. It may delay your car a bit. It wouldn't hurt to ask.
What about the special fragrance effect?
Can they retrofit that too?
In motion supercharging using AT&T 5G LTE.
I have this on my car and it is a 2012. I don't believe it is exclusive to Signatures. I think that that it is still buggy though.
Don't forget power folding mirrors, too.
@chrisdl et al,
Thanks for the laugh.
Why do you think Elon wants to go to Mars? Because the Martians are the only ones who can make lighted vanity mirrors. It's soooo obvious. Jeez......
Whip flash? That brings up some funny and not-PC pictures ... ;p
Your picture taken by paparazzi and a red carpet rolled out for all of your stops in your Model S... ;-)
LOL Best thread in a while. Keep it up guys.
@Brian - you beat me to it. "Whip flash protection" sounds intriguing.
I though we have state-of-the art. Honda has a central vacum cleaner in theirs!
How about self cleaning interior & exterior, like the Jetson's (my apologies to the younger set who may not know the Jetson's).
If we are talking about future features:
You might want to wait for grasshopper mode.
So are all of these features really going to happen? Really makes me wish I would have waited :/
Now I'm sad.
Now. about that photo...
Lane departure, blind spot detection, and adaptive cruise have been in that hidden menu since May. So I wouldn't take it as they are coming anytime soon. My guess would be late 2014/early 2015 since they seem to be busy just getting the car sold globally first.
Grasshopper mode is new for this last release and I can't help but think it was a proposed method for avoiding road debris.
Airborne MS? The bind moggles.
Thure sing, Brian.
