No regen under 5mph

No regen under 5mph

Just me or does the model 3 performance not have regen under 5mph? Seems to want to coast until I then need to press the brakes. Assume this is because not enough energy would be recovered to make regen worth it?
Creep is off and no chill mode either.

This is normal. It's to make you use your brakes once in a while. Keeps the rust off the rotors.

This is an accurate statement. I prefer it.

That's normal behavior, but I'm convinced that slingshot18's reason is correct. I think it's just a limitation of the regen technology used in Teslas.

Physics. Braking force requires energy derived from forward momentum. As the forward velocity dwindles, so does any braking force.

I think Monroe also showed it had to do with the type of electric motor Tesla uses. Some, like used in the Bolt and other EV's can regen smoothly to 0 rpm, but the Tesla electric motors can't smoothly regen at very slow speeds. Physics was beyond me, but that was the concept I read.

I meant to say “but I’m not convinced...”

Braking for rotor cleaning is a side effect, not a primary intention.
