I know I have 2.5 and I know I’ve found this information somewhere before, but can someone steer me to where to find it again?
I seem to recall some folks posting build dates being the indicator and mine was Nov 2018 so pretty sure I’m 2.5 but I’d like to know this answer too.
I recall you can discern which hardware is installed by inspecting the video clips that are saved to your usb drive. I cannot recall what properties point to hw2.5 versus hw3.0.
That was once true, but no more. All are H.264 now, IIRC.
My build is April 2019. When I asked the service department on the phone, he s as I’d that I had 3.0, but that was also around the time of the changeover.
Simple method. After you get your 2019.36+ update
If your car can detect traffic cones = HW3, else HW2.5
I just read something about needing a chip to fully get the newest download. I got my m3 in oct. 2018. I’m an 81 year old woman who doesn’t understand cars but paid for all the self driving stuff so it would help me drive as I age. Does this new update mean I threw my money away?will they give out new computers?
You will get/should get a free upgraded computer for full FSD.
For Model 3, HW3 was released on April 12 this year, so if your 3 was built before April, you have HW2.5. If you paid for FSD, you’ll get a free upgrade to HW3.
For some odd reason i have read that there are some June/19 build date units that have HW2.5
Anyone care to confirm?
Is the HW3 upgrade already happening?

Saw the cones today so HW3. Took deliver May 16, 2019, not sure when the car was built.
81 year old women on the forums....gotta love Tesla.
Bennettb619, it is supposed to be a question of when, rather than if. I am also expecting for a computer upgrade, but do not know the timing.
