Must have Tesla Apps

Must have Tesla Apps

I should be getting my Model 3 very soon and was wondering which are your must have Apps.

Uncle George | 2018年4月14日

Tesla Mobile app, Plugshare, EV trip Optimizer

Itrnhds | 2018年4月14日

another good one is volta, it's free destination chargers

MarylandS85 | 2018年4月15日

If you want to use your Apple Watch to control the car, get Remote S.

Xerogas | 2018年4月15日

Not sure if this counts, because I haven’t published it to the App Store yet, but the iPad Tesla Forum Enhancement Suite I wrote this weekend is already my favorite way to peruse the forums. So pleasant not having to read troll drivel.

johnnykadi | 2018年4月15日

This is a good thread. I also use volta

Elizabets07 | 2018年4月15日

@xerogas. Sounds interesting! I’ll be looking for it.

Xerogas | 2018年4月15日

@Elizabets07, yay, I was beginning to wonder why there was no interest!

maintreqd | 2018年4月16日

@xerogas will it work for iPhone as well, or is it iPad only? If the former, when will it be available? Do you have a description written up for it yet?

I'd love a better way to peruse the forum from my phone. Right now I just use a bookmark in Safari on iOS, which as you likely know since you wrote an app, is terrible lol

maintreqd | 2018年4月16日

I love this thread!

Question for those of you using it EV trip Optimizer: is there an easy way to modify your departure SoC? I only see it as a default setting in the Settings section of the app, which I understand makes sense for folks who can charge at home and thus always leave with 90% charge, but that is not my situation so I'll need a way to modify that figure for most trips

jordanrichard | 2018年4月16日

4 yrs and the only app I use is Tesla's. I don't know what the others offer in way of practical information that isn't already on the Tesla app.

maintreqd | 2018年4月16日

I mainly want an app to reliably plan a trip, including my departure SoC and supercharger stops, from my couch, rather than having to be sitting in the car and use the car's UI.

The Tesla app would be perfect, I think, if it could do that. But what do I know, I don't yet have my model 3 and am just theorizing :)

benjamin.waxler | 2018年4月16日

I would say the Chargepoint app is probably helpful. Those things seem to be everywhere.

Xerogas | 2018年4月16日

@maintreqd, it works on iPhone as well -- it's a universal iOS app. So far (I've only had a day or so to work on it), it has tabs across the bottom, one for each forum, and it hides posts from your choice of trolls. Tap a username in a thread, tap OK to add that user to your list of trolls, and poof! It also has a nice interface for managing your list of trolls, so you can remove someone's username if you have a change of heart.

Will see if I can get it to auto-login as well, because that's one of my gripes about the current forum kicking you out so often.

maslowb | 2018年4月16日

I presume people talking about couch trip planning are aware of Tesla's own online trip planner? https://www.tesla.com/trips

john | 2018年4月16日

Remote S is excellent and works on the Apple watch as well as iPhone/iPad. ABetterRoutePlanner.com is the best Tesla route planner I have seen and it shows other chargers, will track your vehicle in real-time, allow you to set up waypoints and much, much more including taking in elevation, and wind force and direction. Far better than the one on the Tesla site. Key for Tesla is an app that allows you to unlock and lock a Tesla using Siri on your Apple watch. Remote S plans to add this support but it isn't there yet. Stats is an app to graphically view your past performance.

Steam613 | 2018年4月16日

This may be a one off scenario. But I want to take a road trip in the model three along Route 66. Cannot seem to find a mapping tool that will keep me on that road while designating charging stations to utilize

Dansosa | 2018年4月16日

Steam613. I think goanywhere is the app you are looking for.

mark1234 | 2018年4月16日

I wish there were widgets for direct access to open the front and rear trunk

bj | 2018年4月16日

@Xerogas - does it do the Capchas as well? Ha ha.

Though I won’t use your App. If I find something “trollish” I ignore it and don’t reply to it. But the idea of never seeing it troubles me. I don’t like the developing “me me me” internet philosophy of living in a bubble and only seeing views you don’t find objectionable. I’ll read what the trolls say, it gives me insight into their biases. I might even learn something new. You need to understand the enemy in order to defeat them.

nagvr | 2018年4月17日

Download sundial android app for real time carbon emissions information from play store or sunergy.org. iOS coming soon. Works well in most states.

Sunergy is a non profit foundation dedicated for promoting renewables.

hokiegir1 | 2018年4月17日

I *really* wish ABetterRoutePlanner was app based instead of just web-based. I love their planning tools and customization.

Has anyone used any of the Alexa skills that allow for "get my car ready" type commands?

jithesh | 2018年4月17日

I am yet to get my Model 3.

I see that PlugShare app shows other charging stations like Chargepoint, Home Owners Charging, etc.
Does the Tesla app also shows those ?

It would actually be great if Tesla app shows those or if Tesla allows these apps to be installed in the car itself.

peteattesla | 2018年5月28日

Have any of you use the TEZLAB app?

cotegang | 2018年5月28日

I have had a Model S for 5 years and driven 100,000 miles around the country. I have always used evtripplanner.com. It doesn't work on a phone though, only a PC browser. It is very good at getting the right estimated charge... However, I will now look into ABetterRoutePlanner since it appears to be app-based...

I also use PlugShare to find chargers when I am going places where there are no superchargers.

cotegang | 2018年5月28日

Sorry, I read the post above wrong... ABetterRoutePlanner is only web-based I see. I will look at it anyway to see how it compares.

cotegang | 2018年5月28日

Ok, so ABetterRoutePlanner seems better than evtripplanner. They both seem to have the same elements, but evtripplanner doesn't work well on the Model S browser. ABetterRoutePlanner appears to be setup for that purpose, which is great!

I'm an old dog, but I think I've learned a new trick...

WardT | 2018年5月28日

I'm looking for an app that will show me info on each trip I take. I recently purchased the "Automatic" OBD thing that records each time my ICE vehicle is started. It shows the trip MPG, miles, start & stop time. I would like to have each trip I take in the Tesla itemized in the same way. Is there an app that does that for the M3?.

StatsApp | 2018年8月1日

Here is a partial list of what "Stats app for Tesla" does. Screenshots and demo video in App Store: https://appsto.re/i6df7y9

- A graph that shows your battery health
- A graph that shows your efficiency vs. others
- A graph that shows firmware distribution across users
- A graph that shows miles driven per day/week/month
- A graph that shows stats related to your charging sessions
- A graph that shows your driving efficiency history
- A graph that shows you phantom drain stats per day/week/month and location of each phantom drain
- Export your stats to a spreadsheet to analyze on your desktop computer
- Sends notification if you arrive somewhere and leave one of the doors or trunk(s) open (which prevents the car to lock itself)
- Receive a notification (after a few minutes) if climate was tuned on remotely and you are not in the car. This helps prevent depleting the car battery if you turn the climate on remotely and then forget about it.
- Send addresses from your iOS device to your car
- Charging reminder notifies you if the car's battery level is low and it is parked at home and it is unplugged
- Use the Widget to do all this without launching any apps:
check status of all doors
battery level
time to complete charge (when charging)
- Displays driving efficiency over past 30 miles
- Supports multiple vehicles under the same account
- App reminds you if the battery level is low (user specified) and the car is at home (user specified location) and it's not plugged in. Of course, the feature is optional and can be disabled, if desired.
-You can change the cost for a charging session by tap-and-hold on the cost bar-chart
- Integrated several forums and new sites and let you search the Tesla forum

Any other thoughts on must-have apps? I take delivery today & am planning on:
Tesla App
Plugshare App
Volta App
EVgo App

dmastro | 2018年8月21日

I wish we could favorite a post on this forum. I suppose I could add it to my bookmarks. This is good info.

jpyang | 2018年8月21日

+1 for ChargePoint.
I'm in Bay Area. Company offer free charging via ChargePoint. Even at Valley Fair mall, you need a ChargePoint account if you want to park at EV spot (free parking but paid charging).

SalisburySam | 2018年8月22日

For me and my one month Model 3 ownership I use:

1- Tesla app (duh!)
2- PlugShare (had a subscription and used since 2012 for my Nissan LEAF)
3- ChargePoint (same as #2)
4- Blink (same as #2)
5- TeslaFi - I’m nearing the end of my two-week trial and may or may not opt for the $50/year subscription. It appears to work OK but the amount of data collected and massaged is a bit overwhelming, perhaps like the StatsApp mentioned elsewhere. TeslaFi does have huge amounts of information about all Tesla’s registered subscribers such as how many are on which software versions.

My desires for more include either enhancements to the main Tesla app or separate apps that:
A- permit routing offline, as others have mentioned
B- a way to get that offline routing to the vehicle’s nav

Iwantmy3 | 2018年8月22日

Find me an app where I can remotely roll the windows up and down when parked. That would interest me.

Cabin overheat results in substantial vampire drain. It would not be necessary if the windows are rolled down during the day. Unfortunately, frequent rain or other weather events prevent me from leaving them down when I can't get to them quickly.

radiocycle | 2018年8月30日

I like some of the online apps (ABRP, etc.) that are trip planners... But when I input a destination of Portland, OR from here in the SF Bay area, I get like 5 stops at superchargers. When I input the same destination in the car, I get two stops; way different results. And for our first +500 mile trip I'm just a tad nervous with only two stops, as apposed to four or five! I wish there was a decent Android app that we could use for our upcoming trip north. Or that the car 'app' could be configured so that it would use 4 or 5 supercharger stops on the way. Am I missing something??

drbob | 2018年8月31日

I collected a bunch of Apps and links when I had my Model S, which I turned in on lease in December, 2017. Collected more stuff driving a Chevy Bolt over the last year and ready to get my Tesla Model 3 in 2 weeks :-)

In preparation, I cleaned up my App and Link list, pasted here. Hope it is helpful to you:

@drbob: Great info, thanks! I suggest you start a new thread in the General forum with the same content, so you can keep it up to date if new apps become available.

dacastro4 | 2018年10月19日

Hey @EVRider and @drbob If you guys are looking for an Android Wear app, I made a new one like a month ago. I'm going to keep adding features in the future. Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslawear.danielcastro... Website: https://goo.gl/pBfg1y

tesla | 2018年10月31日

I wish Tesla could enable the trip planner to sync with the car. It's a lot easier to plan the trip at home, and having a trip saved by your tesla account would be easy. Then it should be retrievable from the car.

Trekman | 2018年10月31日

@dacastro4 - Kool. Do you know if there is a similar app for the Fitbit watches?

thorvund | 2018年12月14日

Does anybody know if having the EV Watch Complication on an Apple Watch causes excessive vampire drain? It seems like it would be constantly waking the car to show the battery percentage.

drbob | 2018年12月14日

Really love TeslaFi - wealth of great information. Use my referral link and get 4 weeks free (instead of the usual 2 weeks)

Pepperidge | 2018年12月14日

Tesla mobile app is the only app you must have, and it is the only app I use.

kichwas | 2018年12月14日

Be careful of any third party apps that can access or otherwise ping your Tesla.

Even if they’re safe... the pings mean waking up the car and then putting it back to sleep. That’s battery drain...

ModernTriDad | 2018年12月15日

I would be concerned both about vampire drain, especially for those installing multiple apps accessing the car, and about security. It is a matter of time before one of the apps is successfully hacked and commands sent to vehicles. It is more likely it will be done just to create chaos or to show that it can be done, than to steal a specific vehicle. There is a lot of effort by Tesla to keep their vehicles secure, but you lose that by allowing a 3rd party with an unknown amount of IT security to access vehicles. Unless a 3rd party is very active with security researchers/auditing, I would be extra cautious about giving access to an API that allows my vehicle to be moved, unattended, with a summon command.

atehrani | 2019年4月4日

Agree with ModernTriDad! Let's stop supporting these app because of our life is in their hand (security systems).

dacastro4 | 2019年6月9日

@ModernTriDad and @atehrani you don't need to stop supporting the apps because, for example, my app doesn't wake up the car unless you request an action and also don't store any data for safety. You just have to read and know what are you installing.

BuffaloBillsFan | 2019年6月9日

Just to be clear, these are apps installed on your mobile devices and not your Tesla? I ask because I don’t know of any devices to download to the car itself.

teslastics.com | 2019年6月13日

Take advantage of your Tesla using https://teslastics.com
Check an example: https://teslastics.com/#/day/17033783547303092/2019/4/26

jithesh | 2019年6月13日

I am staying away from any third party apps until Tesla releases an official API to build third party apps even if that means a bit less convenience for me

Fuzzball | 2019年6月13日

There is only one must have app - the tesla app.

Everything else appears unneccary except if you need access to charging, or are willing to give up significant information.

Dont get carried away - start with the Tesla app and the rest you will figure out anyway.

Congrats on joining the Tesla Family..
