Has anyone else been given the runaround about regarding their refund.

I have been waiting close to 30 days now and still have not recieved my refund. I was told in January it would be 7-10 days, then I was told I woudl recieve it today February 11th and now "they are looking into it".

It shoudln't be taking this long.

I got a refund in about 2 weeks. I ordered 2 Teslas, then cancelled one

rdyrd | 14 februari 2013

For me it's been almost a month, and no ETA on when I should expect it, just that it is delayed and they are looking into it.

Noticed this thread had gone quiet.
Did you receive your refund?

bens-tech-toys | 23 februari 2013

I ordered 2 different reservations (standard & signature) and received standard refund (credit card reservation) within a few days time.

bplumb99 | 28 februari 2013

I requested a refund about 3 weeks ago and have not received the credit as of yet. Cash flow problems?????

Vawlkus | 28 februari 2013

No, more likely administrative delays. Call in, that generally gets the ball rolling again.

kkiri7 | 2 maart 2013

A colleague who cancelled said it took more than 30 days for his refund to be processed by Tesla.
He was initially told 10-15 days, but it took much longer, plus 3 more days for the credit to appear in his account.
So I would not worry if its only been 3 weeks or so - you WILL get your money back from Tesla.
Hope this allays any concerns some may have.

The "runaround" is an understatement. I asked for a refund nearly a month ago, and they have delayed the process at every step of the way. There is NO EXCUSE. I put the deposit on my AmEx card, which generally takes TWO TO THREE DAYS to process a refund. Tesla said it would take THREE WEEKS, PLUS up to 30 more days for the credit card company (AmEx says it takes 24-48 HOURS). Is it really any wonder why Tesla takes so long? They are using my money to finance their operations at zero percent interest. They are facing a liquidity problem which was made worse by the NYT article. Now, they are acting in bad faith. They do the same thing with the configurations. They ask you to configure the car before they are ready to begin building it so that the refund becomes non-refundable. They never make a COMMITMENT to their customer- not for the refund, not for delivery of the car, nothing. Class action anyone?

Grow up

exPGAhacker | 6 maart 2013

Sounds like you should have just bought the car! Haha! If the $5,000 is THAT important to you, you probably shouldn't have made the deposit.

Vawlkus | 6 maart 2013

Take your own advice Dave.

I requested a refund for my MX reservation about 3 weeks ago. One of the saddest days of my life. I canceled for personal financial reasons, not because of any lack of faith in Tesla -- quite the opposite. As co-owner of a semi-high tech startup, the money comes and goes, and I was without a paycheck for much longer than anticipated, and worrying about making mortgage payments.
After 12 out of the 15 business days that TM advises you the process may take, I sent an email asking if things were still going smoothly. TM got back to me, said they would expedite the process, and two days later the check arrived by FedEx.
I think that qualifies as good service. No company is going to break a leg to speed up the refund process -- there's not much point other than good PR with those who have stated they don't want to be your customer any more.
It looks like I'll be financially healthy in a matter of months, at which point I fully intend to reinstate my reservation. TM has expanded 10-fold in the past year. There are going to be growing pains, especially in customer service. But they continue to figure things out.

Or more.

kkiri7 | 10 maart 2013

Tess Lasux,

As I mentioned earlier, you WILL get your refund.
Yes, it is taking rather longer than it should (in my colleague's case, 30 days plus 3 to post to his account).

"Class action"? - no attorney would even consider that.

If you want to make some money, instead of class actions, simply invest your refund in some Tesla shares (TSLA) - then relax and wait.

I would like my deposit back due to the cost of the model X I thought I could buy this Suv loaded for about $80,000.00 it seems loaded would be about $120,000.00 + that is not in my budget.

Dramsey | 13 september 2016

Um, you put down a deposit without knowing how much you'd actually have to pay for the vehicle? When there's a simple online configurator that lets you see exactly how much it will be?

In any case, this isn't the place to ask for a refund; you need to contact Tesla directly.

lilbean | 13 september 2016

You could just get the 60D. You'll love it. I hardly use the features I paid extra for.

JAnnen | 13 september 2016

Tens of thousands of people put down $5k deposits before knowing how much it would cost. I know I did. That was years ago, and I still waiting for my X90D.. There was no Model X online design studio back then.

davediep | 14 september 2016

I ordered my Sig X about 4 years ago. At that time, just like JAnnen stated "There was no Model X online design studio" but there was Model S design studio that can be used to estimate the cost of Model X (we all know the X will cost more than the S).

So there should not be any cost surprises...

Dramsey | 14 september 2016

Good point. Still, I find it astonishing that someone who ordered their car four years ago still doesn't have one. I can go online and design one that Tesla says they can deliver inside 14 days...

wetweld1 | 5 augustus 2018

I canceled my tesler 3 order over 75 days ago. I called in with my debit card number. I was told it was the fasted way to my $1000 refund. Three to five days max! I waited a month and called back in, I was then told it was 30-days.. at that point it was 30-days. The response was "can't say for sure". I have still have not received the refund as of today. Who do I need to contact to resolve this matter ASAP, Regards Ron

I am not sure how I can help you. But I cancelled my second Model 3 reservation as I no longer needed it a week ago. I gave them my bank account number and the routing number and the money was in my account in 3 days. The car then disappeared from my account page. Why don’t you look at you account page and see what it says. If the car is still there it hasn’t been cancelled. If not I guess you need to call them.

SO | 6 augustus 2018

I gave them my bank routing and was refunded in less than a week. According to the web page, that was the fastest method I believe.

mdking323 | 5 december 2018

I am 2 months out and still waiting for my refund. Gosh. It is a nightmare! who do I have to call?

It's been over 4 months for me and I'm still trying to track down my refund. Jasmine (my contact) won't even return my emails or calls at this point. When I disputed the charge on my CC it was initially removed only to be reposted at a later date by Tesla.

I was told by Jasmine the refund check was mailed out. However I was originally told the refund would go back to my CC. Well after waiting 2-4 weeks for receipt of the refund check that never came... I called back. Then I was told it was refunded back to my CC on a specific date... but it never appeared.

Still running around in circles with this one.

Happy Camper | 23 maart 2019

Took me 2+ months to get mine. Was first told in person when I bought my 3 from on -hand stock that it would take 2 to 3 days (and it had to be credited back to the card the deposit was made from); then told 30 business days; then after those 30 business days, was told 30 days. Crazy thing is they took a while to get me the check, and then instead of just putting in the mail with a first class stamp, they spend $8 to Fedex it. They could certainly benefit by having someone come in and do some business process re-engineering -- would very likely save them $ and result in more satisfied customers at the same time Just happy I finally got my deposit back and that the check didn't bounce, but I've lost a lto of confidence in Tesla because of this (and other inaccurate information I've been provided.

dionisio944 | 24 maart 2019

I had a similar issue with refund and customer service getting back to me on merchandise I purchased, All I did was call my Credit card company and filed a dispute. I got an instant temp credit while they did their investigation. 2 days later I was emailed from my bank informing me the temo credit is now permanent. 3 weeks laterI get an email from Tesla informing me of a refund due.. LOL... Lesson learned,, if they are holding your cash hostage, call your bank, most offer refunds before the company gets off their ass to do it for you.

mamismam | 26 april 2019

I am very disappointed after I was willing to leave the reservation money as long as I could (even if I am willing to buy the Tesla car) just to support Tesla and save the environment, I realized that my thoughts about Tesla and saving the environment was so naive; I canceled my reservation more than 2 months ago (approximately) and I did not receive the refund yet!

There is no person/phone number I can use to follow up on my refund; I sent 2 emails asking about my refund and I did NOT even get a REPLY/ACKNOWLEDGEMENT to my communications!!
