First song

First song

Now that I have received my email to build my Model S, I am imagining that first ride and need to decide what music will suit such an occasion. Radar Love maybe? What will be your first driving tune in your new Model S?

The live version of "Highway Star" by Deep Purple (album: Made In Japan)

Captain_Zap | 28 juli 2013

That was the first song that I did for fun. That is, after my higher quality sound check first songs.

Nobody gonna take my car
I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
It's gonna break the speed of sound
Oooh it's a killing machine
It's got everything
Like a driving power big fat tyres
and everything

I love it and I need it
I bleed it
Yeah it's a wild hurricane
Alright, hold tight
I'm a highway star!

Hot Rod Heart by John Fogerty
Life in the Fast Lane by the Eagles
Long May You Run by Neil Young (probably also the last song I'll play in my Model S)

Sanjuro | 28 juli 2013

(hit submit too soon)

Fast Car by Tracy Chapman

Dorrie | 28 juli 2013

Big Pimpin', bitches! i got it all queued up. less than 2 weeks now....

Tesla Girls by OMD

Brian H | 29 juli 2013

Didja know that rap talk (and clothing) comes from the prison inmate subculture, with all its goals and values? Works best when your forebrain is dead.

Captain_Zap | 29 juli 2013

Last weekend we took Tessie for a cruise on the scenic backroads.

"The Pump" by Jeff Beck was playing on Slacker as we drove by an old store that had flower planters where the fuel pumps used to be.

Too cool.

DigitalSavant | 29 juli 2013

"The Race" by Yello

Dorrie | 29 juli 2013

Brian H,

With talk like that, I think my wife (and her prison tear) should whip yo ass.

Tabarnouche | 6 september 2014

I'm bumping this because it's such a good topic. As of now, I'm deciding between these (I have only two weeks left to decide) and it will depend on my mood at the time:

Fire Woman (The Cult) - perfect for a MC Red
Baba O'Riley (The Who)
Stayin' Alive (Bee Gees)
It's My Life (Talk Talk)
Interstate Love Song (Stone Temple Pilots)
Theme from Battle of the Planets
Theme from This Week in Baseball (the old orchestral one)
Theme from Hockey Night in Canada

On The Road Again, by Willie N.

Captain_Zap | 6 september 2014

It turns out that one of my favorite Slacker stations I made is called "Gasoline" by Audioslave.

There is something about the way the song starts. "House is haunted. I just want to go for a ride."

sberman | 6 september 2014

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon played a song called "All About That Bass" earlier this week. Here's the three minute clip:

Some of the lines:
"All the right junk in all the right places."
"Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top."
"My momma she told me don't worry about your size."

Anyway, I think it has a catchy tune.

I have given this months of thought and have concluded that the first song I play in my Model S has to be Largo al Factorum from Rossini's Barber of Seville. Not only do I sing this when going through border patrol checkpoints as Walter Matthau did in "Hopscotch", but it really sums up my life. The captions are not entirely accrete but close.

Red Sage ca us | 7 september 2014

Idunno... Maybe... 'WOMEN' by Def Leppard? Yeah, it's the first track on their 'HYSTERIA' album. That'll do just fine.

psrenv | 7 september 2014

First album that is played back to front in all my newly acquired cars is:

genedr @ny-us | 7 september 2014

1. Long and Winding Road, from Let It Be album - because it is.
2. Ride of the Valkyries, Wagner - the car's acceleration and the piece's tempo are a perfect match.
3. Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen - no explanation needed.

PhillyGal | 7 september 2014

I just listened to Dippin in my Tesla that Larry shared on the first page - HILARIOUS!

The first song I'll play on my first solo ride is called "This Ride" by The Starting Line.

The Hubs and I are trying to figure out what we'll choose for our true first drive. All good ideas here. Especially, Fun Fun Fun, which I listen to a lot in my little deuce coup (pun intended) because "All the girls can't stand her `cause she walks, talks and drives like an ace."

hcwhy | 7 september 2014

This is an upbeat, New Orleans jazz instrumental. For me it nails the feeling of cruising in the Tesla with no traffic and no worries...just relaxing and enjoying the drive.
I posted this on a previous thread about music...I apologize for anyone for whom this is a repeat.

romainiacWV | 7 september 2014

"Doin' it right" - Daft Punk.

kmalloy | 7 september 2014

Highway to Hell is what I played as I pulled out of the service station after picking up my P85+.

Brian H | 8 september 2014

Welcome repeat. | 8 september 2014

I listened to the BMW i8 , the lyrics is more about a Model S than an i8. But you have to listen through the bluetooth on your phone because the MS browser does not support flash.

"well it's feeling like a brighter day...
it's so perfect yeah it's so perfect....

and it's so easy...."

Playing this song in my Model S .. Just feels right..

Djinn1 | 8 september 2014

Born to be Wild (Steppenwolf) -

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way ...

(note motor, not engine)

Brian H | 8 september 2014

I hate trance "music". There's maybe 20 seconds worth of feeb creativity in that song.

hcwhy | 8 september 2014

@Brian H Thanks

EternalChampion | 8 september 2014

Definitely Meatloaf. Paradise by the dashboard light.

EchoCharlie1 | 8 september 2014

With volume at a tolerable level on the upgraded sound system, it's a toss up between:

"Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve

"Nessun Dorma" by Puccini

Nantang | 16 oktober 2014

The Cult's album Electric, maybe even skip directly to "Electric Ocean" as a first song. My lead candidate color choice is deep blue, so if the color options are the same by the time I can put in an order, that'll probably be my song choice.

Another is "Edison's Medicine," by the rock group named Tesla. It's a sort of three-way tribute, coupled with a middle finger to the guy who stole Nikola Tesla's fortune.

jim.wilson | 5 december 2014

Star Wars theme

BigBlueLou | 5 december 2014

"Fly Away" - Lenny Kravitz

David_M @CA.US | 5 december 2014

Depending on long the P85D delivery delay is, it probably will be "At Last" by Etta James.

bish | 5 december 2014

Anyway You Want It -- Journey

Red Sage ca us | 5 december 2014

After I finish listening to DEF LEPPARD, next up will probably be...

'Batman Score' Danny Elfman
'Thriller' Michael Jackson
'Discovery' Daft Punk
'Greatest Hits' The Police
'Greatest Hits' Journey
'The Hits, The B Sides' Prince

Followed by Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Brahms...

PhillyGal | 5 december 2014

We were rocking Christmas tunes tonight but specifically requested the following non-Christmas songs as they seemed appropriate:

Electric Lady
This Ride
Radar Love

And, despite the fact that Hubs was born in the mid 80s - he favorited the first Slacker radio channel as "Rick Astley" radio.

dborn | 5 december 2014

Ode to Joy, Beethovens 9th.

skymaster | 5 december 2014

"Learning To Fly" by Pink Floyd

EnglishGuy | 5 december 2014

"Perfect Day" - Lou Reed

TaoJones | 6 december 2014

First albums:
Wish you were here - Pink Floyd

Captain_Zap | 6 december 2014

My regulars in the car now are "Octane Twisted" by Porcupine Tree and "Gasoline" by Audioslave. "Gasoline" is particularly fun to drive to.

Nicoletta | 6 december 2014

"Running on Empty", Jackson Browne

mrspaghetti | 8 december 2014

Forgive me if this has already been suggested, but I just thought of one that would be perfect:

Welcome to the Machine - Pink Floyd

SbMD | 6 september 2015

Resurrecting this thread for newbies like me and others.

"Voodoo Chile" - Jimi Hendrix in one of his finest recorded moments. Genius and symbolic. Enough said.

"Unchained" by Van Halen - more obscure unless you are a fan, but arguably one of the most "fierce" guitar riffs and songs (especially when you know the back story) put on record. One of my top 10 launch songs.

Parenthetically, both are just a blast to play live... no doubt influences my choice.

J.T. | 6 september 2015

I've always been partial to Sugar Sugar and the entire oeuvre of the 1910 Fruitgum Company.

Classic. :-)

SbMD | 6 september 2015

@JT - so the Archies version or the Wilson Pickett version?
One of the few -- perhaps the only -- song to hit #1 in two consecutive years by two different artists.

Bitjockey | 6 september 2015

Patrick Watson's "Love Songs for Robots"
