Painted Brake Calipers

Painted Brake Calipers

I am thinking of painting my calipers on my p85. Has anyone done this? If you have, how would you go about getting someone to do it right the first time?

There is a lot of good step by step DIY on doing this...

As well, some good 'how to' videos on YouTube.

Also, there are special kits designed specifically for doing it...

I did it myself using the G2 kit, brush-on. You just have to take some time to tape off the parts you don't want painted. The more time you take to prep the calipers, the better it will look. The hard part is re-painting the "TESLA" logo, since you will paint over that on the first coat. I re-painted the logo with black model paint, and surprisingly, that paint has not heated up enough to boil off yet. Probably if I took the car to a track-day event, it would be gone but I've never seen the high-temp paint ever show even a hint of fading or yellowing in many years.

I used a rectangle of carefully placed masking tape to cover the Tesla print and after spray painting the calipers International Orange, removing the tape left a black emblem with the silver Tesla printed on it. I also used plastic shopping bage to mask off everything except the calipers to be painted. Starting a small tear the plastic bag, the tear stretched nicely around the caliper and the bag further streched to fully cover the brake drum and protected from paint. I had to wait for the paint to completely dry before removing the plastic shopping bag. Good luck.
