What's faster than Supercharger in practical real life right now? 10 seconds for a 3 mile run?

Supercapacitor of course!

And as with any capacitor, long range storage has been a challenge.

That's why frequent bus stops are a perfect fit for Super Capacitor. It's all charged up in 10 seconds flat for another 3 miles while it takes longer than that for bus passengers to board and step off the bus.

How big are these Supercapacitors? I wonder if a combined technology would work, by which Supercapacitors are charged in seconds and they, in turn, gradually charge the onboard battery while the car is already back on the road. Obviously there is a way to discharge the capacitor slowly, otherwise the bus couldn't be driven, so this should be doable. The question, of course, is: Is is practical?

I expect Tesla should in the future include super capacitors in tandem with batteries. This will allow full regenerative braking when cold, as well as greatly enhancing vehicle acceleration because of the incredible discharge rates that super caps can provide. Unfortunately, these systems create some complexity. AFAIK, Elon is an expert in ultra capacitors In his engineering studies; so when it makes sense to happen, it will happen. Maybe roadster II...

They are doing similar testing here in the states, but I forget which city. Though I don't think they are using capacitors. they are just using batteries but by having a quick charge at every stop, it negates the need to have the bus out of service to do a full charge.

Supercapacitors, especially ones mounted close to the motor to reduce wire losses have the potential (no geek pun intended) to store regenerative braking energy much more efficiently than batteries. This has the potential to make the car more efficient. For heavy vehicles such as deliver trucks, this could potentially have a significant cost benefit. Increased acceleration capability is just a free 'benefit' to passenger cars that can add to the thrill and hence improve the desirability of EVs. It can be a huge congestion and economy measure for local delivery trucks that have to do a lot of stop and go driving with heavy loads.
@RS: This tool could have a lot of uses . . .
It could be all good :-)
For now, though, and until the M III is out, IMHO, it is best that Tesla keep their focus on reducing battery costs.
