Wording change for Model 3 production

Wording change for Model 3 production

I didn't see it posted by anyone else yet, but both the FAQ, https://www.tesla.com/support/model-3-reservations-faq , and the model 3 home page https://www.tesla.com/model3 now say "Production to being mid 2017". As near as a I can it still says deliveries in late 2017 though.

Also, I never noticed before, but the black model 3 image on the FAQ is pretty sharp, I assume it is just a photoshop though.

based on the wayback machine, it was listing "late 2017" until the Feb 20th update when it went to "mid 2017". (based on the FAQ page).

"but the black model 3 image on the FAQ is pretty sharp"

Isn't it though. Consensus was that it was a CGI render. If they had one in black, why wouldn't they display it?

Thank you kindly.

@topher - "If they had one in black, why wouldn't they display it?"

Not to hijack my own thread but, yes, I agree! My last two cars have been black and I was half way to convincing myself I wanted another color ... now I'm not so sure.

Well that's a bit reassuring. That really projects to their determination to hit that July production mark. Now if only they had a delivery mark...

@topher - "Consensus was that it was a CGI render."

Who's consensus? If that picture is a CGI render, it is possibly the best CGI render ever done in the history of humanity. In particular, the way the ambient light is reflected off the various surfaces of the car, and the way even the hue of the reflection varies to match the tonality of the evening sky in the background shows a level of attention to intricate detail and realism that is beyond what most digital artists achieve.

I mean, if CGI can be made that good as to be completely indistinguishable from reality, why did Princess Leia look like a chipmunk at the end of Rogue One?

LOL! She really did! But I thought Grand Moff Tarkin looked pretty much indistinguishable from reality. I was really looking but he looked very real.

Annual Report (10-K)

Both refer to mid-2017 as the beginning of Model 3 production. The 10-K has 84 mentions of "Model 3" inside it. Use find in your browser, it makes for some interesting reading.

I thought this picture was from the original batch of press shots from the Unveiling, Part 1.

It looks like it has the old door handles.

Or maybe I have that backwards:

Either way I think the FAQ photo looks pretty nice!

bj | 15 maart 2017

@JeffreyR - you nailed it :)

I downloaded all the original gallery photos in April last year and the same photo of the black one is indeed there. I'd forgotten about it.

It does look very nice! But I won't be getting a black one...

@JeffreyR

Those door handles are going to be a pain. I don't relish the idea of having to tell everyone that rides in my car how to operate the door!

"Who's consensus?"

The consensus of forums like this, at the time.

" the way even the hue of the reflection varies to match the tonality of the evening sky in the background shows a level of attention to intricate detail and realism that is beyond what most digital artists achieve."

That is what you get in a ray-traced render. Though I do agree, if it is a render it is a fantastic one.

Here is a similar example, known to be ray-traced: http://www.geforce.com/sites/default/files-world/screenshots/design-gara...

Thank you kindly.

@CT worried, "Those door handles are going to be a pain. I don't relish the idea of having to tell everyone that rides in my car how to operate the door!"

If they cannot figure out how to get in, do you really want to ride w/ them?

BTW - you can get door handles like that already. Saw a video of someone replacing their old handles on a hot rod last year. I think the hockey stick part is necessary so you know where to push. Handles like this supposedly save a few percentage points on mileage. So probably worth a "just push it to open the door."

Badbot | 16 maart 2017

west coast customs has used these handles for years
