Anyone scheduled for delivery for this week get a call today saying it is not going to happen?

Did anyone else get a call saying that their delivery is not going to happen this week. I am still trying to get things sorted out with the delivery specialist. This morning she told me we were a full go for Thursday delivery, and now she is talking about a delivery after the 24th of August. I am concerned. This is my 3rd delivery specialist and she has not been able to give me reliable info. I have asked for a call back from a manager and hope to hear from her soon.

I post this to find out if there might be bigger delays with the factory retooling than we are being told. They won't do tours of the factory and my car as of this morning was built and being shipped and now it is not available until the end of the month???? It would be interesting to see if others are going through this same thing.

carlk | 11. august 2014

Just to clarify did you actually see car in production on your dash board?

AZNick | 11. august 2014

carlk, I did not see it in production. I was told by the delivery specialist to not pay attention to the dashboard, that the car will be done on time - that was last Thursday. I asked, so it is being built? And she shared yes that it will ship this weekend (the one just pasted) and that they will make the delivery ontime. Thank you for clarifying with me. I also enquired on this board and many responded to not worry about the mytesla page, that it would likely be behind.

steve | 11. august 2014

My delivery date the the 28th of August. As of last week I am being told that is a very realistic date if not earlier. My fingers are crossed.

Drakester347 | 11. august 2014

I just inquired about your delivery on your earlier thread... well that sucks! I was hoping for good news as I have a delivery scheduled for the 27th

I haven't seen anyone post anything about a delivery since the factory was supposed to be back open.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

steve, wishing you the best. I hope that you get your Tesla on time. Based on my experience if you are going to hear your car is delayed you are going to hear that sometime around 8/25/14. I hope you have a better time of it than I am having.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Drakester347, thanks for your observation about not hearing about any deliveries. Could it be that the factory did not open as it was supposed to, but that they are holding back on releasing that info?

Drakester347 | 11. august 2014

yeah, i was hoping for good news from you... pushing it back a couple days is one thing but that is 2 weeks for you.

Not looking to optimistic about my delivery date... gonna send my DS an email to see what he says.

carlk | 11. august 2014

@AZNick From my own experience and what I heard others have the "your car is in production" is always there when it happens. DS do not have additional info unless they make specific contacts with the factory planning department. That communication does not seems to be always good.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

I talked to a manager. She is going to call me back later today on what can be figured out. This whole thing is going in a very weird direction. Why am I still super excited about getting this car? I am on my 3rd delivery specialist and received far more attention and care when I bought my wife's Toyota minivan. I am excited though. So I guess I am and will be at the mercy of Tesla. The manager said toward the end of the call, "Maybe the delay is because you ordered a brown car and with a less common color like that maybe that is what is causing the delay?" She stated this and asked it like a question, not as a fact.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

They are being consistent in their inconsistence. My dashboard still shows my pick up date and time on this Thursday. They called me this morning to say it is not going to happen, but they did not take the effort to update the system.

Crazy thing is that last week the delivery specialist was sure that I would get the car this Thursday. Then this morning she was sure. Then when she called back with the bad news she used the phrase "your tentative delivery date" a number of times. Why didn't she use that phrase last week and earlier this morning when she was sure.

Any suggestions from here for me? 6:00am the next morning 4 of us were taking off on a road trip. Collectively the two couples have 6 kids and we have child care for school, activities and all for the kids. We have hotel and housing arranged. What is sad is that we did not expand this to 4 of us until we got the good news last week. Prior to that my wife and I had backup plans to fly to the conference we are going to. Now the flight will not work. So any ideas on how Tesla can give us the adventure we thought we were going to embark on?

Drakester347 | 11. august 2014

That brown is a sweet color!! I almost went that way. I have standard white... im sure they aren't running low on that color. lol

johncrab | 11. august 2014

I'm scheduled for the 30th and hopeful. Depending on how well the "in production" notice is updated, the MS needs 1.5 days in paint alone. Everything else moves quickly but then there is transport, so Thursday this week doesn't sound do-able unless the car went into production a week ago. Just trying to read the tea leaves here like everyone else. Kind of like going to see santa at the mall and seeing a sign saying he's out to lunch.

Drakester347 | 11. august 2014

so my DS says we are still on schedule for the last week in August... seeing that yours was on schedule this morning then delayed a few hours later I guess that doesn't mean to much.

Keep us updated...

karmamule | 11. august 2014

@Aznick Yikes, you have my sympathies. I know I'd be climbing the walls in that situation. My DS made it clear when he was being rather conservative about my September 12th estimate so I hope that survives any delays. Good luck!

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Anyone else happen to have three different delivery specialist by now? I think that the change in specialist might be playing into some of this confusion.

Drakester347 | 11. august 2014

I've only had one DS. And to be 100% honest in casual convo he mentioned it "may" be August 27th but has never really confirmed it. So even today my dashboard still says "late august" and he is still saying "last week in august"

I have found it strange that some people that dates way in September on the dashboards but I am a couple weeks away and no date.

tes-s | 11. august 2014

I had two delivery specialists, but all went smoothly and I picked up my car a few days ahead of schedule.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Yeah that's the crazy thing, last week she was talking to me about yeah maybe you'll get it a couple days early, let's see how the delivery goes. And find out today they haven't even started to build the car, quite crazy.

omarsultan.ca.us | 11. august 2014

In general, the dashboard is not a reliable source of info. The DS tends to have better info. When you chat with them next, you might want to find out where the car is in the process. For example, it might have made it through the build and QA bounced it back for some reason or they might be holding your build because they are short on some component.

One of the scheduling challenges with Tesla's BTO model is they build cars in blocks based on color and options. If you car misses it slot for some reason, then it waits until the production run for that color/option package. Because brown is a less common color, that might mean the paint/production slots are further apart--probably what the DS meant.

In the "it cannot hurt to ask" department, I would press them to see if they can hook you up with a loaner, since the last minute delay is at their end.

Good luck,

O

P.Mac | 11. august 2014

In these discussions about delivery confusion it would help to include destination. I suspect some uncertainty may be related to arranging a full truck to distant destinations.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Omarsultan, I like the loaner idea, thanks for that tip. That way at least the trips that would happen in a Tesla.

On the other issue of where it is in the process they have been fully noncommittal and not been able to give me straight answers. I've asked very specific questions with um, uh and let me check as the answers.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

P.Mac, AZ delivery. I was willing to pick it up at the factory weeks ago when we discussed it with them and they said no we can be more reliable by giving you a delivery at the center in Scottsdale.

txeVees1 | 11. august 2014

I asked for an update today from my DS and my tentative date is currently Aug 21, delivery to TX. That's consistent with what my DS said a month ago so my date hasn't slipped. But, like Drakester347, my dashboard still says "Late August" even though it's less than 2 weeks away. These last two weeks are going to be tough.

psrenv | 11. august 2014

@karmamule you and I have the same Delivery Date. Are you picking up at the factory? I am. As far as the wait, I feel for everyone..including me!! Heh heh. 32 days left....

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Talked to the manager again. They can't confirm the production status. That is alarming to me. She is going to call me back by the end of the day.

scott.mcphee | 11. august 2014

P85 "priority delivery" may trump any slot that is not this model to push it through, right?

AZNick | 11. august 2014

scott.mcphee, mine is a P85+, so I should have highest priority right?

johncrab | 11. august 2014

@AZNick - They may have a shortage on main warp drive coils or the matter-antimatter reactor. Mr. Scott is working on it. :) (Okay, that doesn't help but I figured a bit of levity might make things a bit lighter.)

romac | 11. august 2014

AZNick - I hope all works out for you. I am in AZ too with a September 6 delivery date. If your P85+ is delayed, I guess there is a chance that mine could be delayed as well. What makes me feel better about the posting above is that I have ordered a white MS. Good luck and I hope all works out for your trip.

psrenv | 11. august 2014

@AZNick update?

AZNick | 11. august 2014

psrenz, thanks for asking. Manager was to call me back by end of the day. It is 4:30 here in az and in ca, so waiting.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

psrenz, looks like the day is ending with no call. Maybe I am going to get an after hours call?

psrenv | 11. august 2014

Sorry to hear. Hate bad customer service and horrible communication. Best of luck to you.

J.T. | 11. august 2014

@AZNick I'm sorry for your frustration and this is certainly Tesoa's fault. Not that the delivery is delayed but that they continue to post dates as if they mean something. They and you would be better off if they just said that your car will be ready "soon."

Omarsultan's idea of them supplying a loaner will not bear fruit because Tesla has done nothing but miss an estimated date. They don't owe you a loaner, you're not even an owner yet.

I've said this on many threads but it doesn't get less true with repeating: Your car will not be confirmed for delivery until you are standing in front of it with all the paperwork completed. Making plans about the car before that is just pie in the sky optimism.

Like I said, having gone through the same thing over a year ago I feel for you. But stewing about it and calling everyone in the company will not help, especially when they give you more inaccurate information. Your wait will eventually be over and things will get better really, really fast.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Just talked to the manager. She shared that my car is in pre-production still. That the factory knew last week that my car would not be ready this week, but that my DS just was not notified. Too bad the DS told me last Thursday and this morning that my car was built already. I shared calmly my extreme displeasure. Where I come from saying a car is built when it has not even started is called lying. It is not getting an estimate wrong, it is sharing something that is untrue.

tes-s | 11. august 2014

Did they give any explanation as to why it was still pre-production? Just normal scheduling and you were not properly notified, or was something delayed?

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Tes-s, they have no explanation. I keep asking simply, what is the status of my car and I keep getting a web of answers. Next I think they will tell me that they need to invent the car

Last Thursday they said it was built and shipping over the weekend.
This morning they said it was built and shipping tonight.
This afternoon the manager said she does not know the status.
This evening she said it shows as pre-production.
This is why I say they will tell me tomorrow that it is being invented.

Can you believe I wired these people 100k last week? After already putting 2.5k down in May. I wired it because on Thursday I was told I might be surprised and that I might even get the car early!

psrenv | 11. august 2014

@AZNick: wow! Is anyone else due this or next week and calling their respective DS? Would love to know if all are late. Definitely not buying plane tickets for my 9-12-14 delivery date until things seem to run a bit more smooth.

thomasdere | 11. august 2014

I am supposed to tour the factory this Friday. I will post if they cancel the tours due to delays in the factory.

karmamule | 11. august 2014

@psrenv I'm on the east coast so no factory tour for me! If I were able to get out there I'd probably shave a week off my delivery date but that's not possible. Crossing fingers we both end up sticking to our given date!

Sluggo | 11. august 2014

My delivery date is August 28 in Fremont. My dashboard still says "sourcing parts". I was told the car is built in 3-5 days. Not worrying......yet. Interesting comments about grouping colors on the line. Mine is white with tan leather. I'll post an update one way or the other.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Just finished sharing the bad news with my wife and kids at dinner. 1st world problems for sure. Family is very upset. My wife is asking me how I can trust Tesla? She is asking why I think things will be better when I'm an owner! I think I'm losing her support. Very scary where this might go. Might be pushed into canceling the order all together. Good for tesla that they haven't even built the car.

Al1 | 11. august 2014

@AZNick

Have you asked about a loaner?

Cancelling an order is your choice of course, but I would hang in a while. You've clearly wanted that car.

Drakester347 | 11. august 2014

In my case I can't be to upset if my estimated date isn't met. I was never given a solid date. But in your case Nick, you were actually told it was built and shipping only to find it hasn't even started production yet. Yeah, that is bad customer service. On top of that you have 100k gone without an estimated new date.

I think you have the right to be upset. But unfortunately I wouldn't cancel but they need to give you a realistic date and mean it

socalsam | 11. august 2014

Dude- that sucks. Definitely let tesla know of your displeasure but don't cancel the order. It's a great car and you will love it. I would definitely raise holy hell with the service center. Lying about a car delivery is unacceptable. What's worse is the 100k you have wired over. That blows.

Kondo | 11. august 2014

I am happy that my delivery is not until September 5th or whenever. I want them to get the bugs out after restarting the line. AZNick, maybe this delay is a good thing. The inaccurate information is another thing though. In Arizona as well btw.

AZNick | 11. august 2014

My Tesla still shows my pick up date and time as 2:00pm on August 14th. Maybe tomorrow they will find my car and it will be here by Thursday. Or maybe a rainbow unicorn will fly in from the island of Avalon?

AZNick | 11. august 2014

Did I happen to mention that today before hearing the bad news I called and place a hold on a number of items to pick up with my car on Thursday? Outside car cover, frunk bag, duffle bag for trunk. I feel like such a sucker to have made that call. It's like the gods of tesla saw I was doing this and said, "no don't spend another $600 plus on our stuff..."

sbeggs | 12. august 2014

@AZNick,
Our sympathies for what you are going through.

@dkondo6 has a good point. Our March 8 delivery was delayed til March 12. Only later did we find out that 32723 was one of the first cars off the line to have the Ti shield already built in.

Brian H | 12. august 2014

Maybe the car failed QC and was scrapped or pulled and is being built again from scratch. Happens.
