HPWC shared along I-80

HPWC shared along I-80

I have had the following installed outside our shop in Omaha, 3 miles off I-80 in Omaha, NE

- HPWC, 208V - 100AMP (47 miles of charge per hour)
- NEMA 14-50R, 240C - 50Amp
- NEMA 6-50R, 240V - 50Amp
- NEMA 10-50R, 240V - 50Amp
- NEMA 5-20R, 120V - 20Amp

These are active 24/7.

1510 Chandler Road
Bellevue, NE 68147

Cost: Free

The parking in front of our building is lit at night and has security cameras. Three cars can charge at one time. (1 on the HPWC, 1 on any 1 of 3 240 plug-ins, 1 on the 120V plug in.)

If you are travelling through you are welcome to use these. If you are local and need an emergency charge or you have a Model S and just what to try out the HPWC you are welcome to use these.

If you need a charge during the day and find that all the stalls are taken (we have a number of EVs and all employees are encouraged to use these) please stop by the office and let us know. If we can we will be happy to vacate a spot for you.

Since it will be some time until the Superchargers will be installed in this part of the U.S. we thought we would help out.

Safe Travels and look for these on PlugShare and Recargo.

@jjs Good deal!

That's awesome!
Any idea what Warren B's take on the Model S and TSLA is?

Wish I knew Warren personally but don't. I do know based upon books he has written that he would not be an investor in TSLA. His method of analyzing companies requires more sustained years of profitability

He is more likely to "short ICE" than to invest in EVs. (Yes I know he has significant holdings in BYD. However they are a much more diverse company whose profits come from more traditional sources.)

Although I greatly admire Warren, I think this time taking the road less traveled has been a great experience. I have thoroughly enjoyed my ride with Telsa and TSLA.

Thank you for the gift.

I've never been around your neck of the woods but I hope to someday. I probably wouldn't have gotten around to thinking about it seriously without the Model S. I'm into road tripping again.

Very generous of you. Not sure I will get there, but thanks anyway!!

MacDaddyDude | 08. oktober 2013

We have family in Omaha, so we'll try to swing by! Thank you for this!

Earl and Nagin ... | 09. oktober 2013

Awesome! Thanks!
This will be very useful for cross country travelers and if we end up giving too many spirited Model S rides while visiting Omaha and need to make it back to Lincoln.

tes-s | 09. oktober 2013

That is very generous of you and your company! I can't even get my company to put in a couple of outlets for employees.

rchiang | 09. oktober 2013

wow thank you we need more people like you around. Also If I was there I would sure and leave some tip money. :)

Bubba2000 | 09. oktober 2013

jjs, thank you for your generous offer. I live in the Southeast US, and there are few public charging stations along I-10 from Florida to Texas. Forget Superchargers. I would be happy to have HPWC/80A. I could top off with 100 miles while having a leisurely lunch. It would be worth paying $10-20/hour based on location.

We installed both a Level 2 Clipper Creek charger and a HPWC at our business, just off I-75 in Dayton, OH. I have a M60, so I am particularly thankful for businesses, and individual owners that share their HPWCs. We had a sign made for our spots:

I am planning a similar project around Yellowstone for Summer 2014.

My family has a business that has locations in Jackson Wyoming (Southern Entrance of Yellowstone).

We also have a location on the Idaho side of the Teton Pass. That way you could recharge a Model S on either side of the mountain pass (10% grade climb)

I will be putting my personal HPWC in that location. I also think I have a top ski resort in Jackson Wyoming ready to install a NEMA 14-50 for overnight charging.

The final step will be to get a 70-80 amp location in West Yellowstone (Montana). I am still working on that location.

When it is done, Model S owners should be able to handle the 260 mile Teton-Yellowstone loop easily. It is rated as a top 10 scenic drive in the USA. It hits all key spots in Yellowstone, Old Faithful, Mesa Falls, Jackson Wyoming, Grand Teton National Park, etc.

If Tesla gets some Superchargers in southern Idaho or Wyoming by Summer 2014, this should be amazing.

Bighorn | 09. oktober 2013

I saw where Jackson put in some public charging and YNP is part of a consortium looking at EV charging. Here in Sheridan, we have a couple big supporters of Tesla in our Travel and Tourism office who are in close contact with the regional SC build-out team.

PapaSmurf | 09. oktober 2013

Getting a 70-80 amp recharging location in Cody Wyoming would be key to covering the east entrance to Yellowstone. Any plans there?

Bighorn | 09. oktober 2013

I think there's an owner in Cody, but I haven't heard of any private plans to put in a station. It's a natural for the SC network, though. The regional contact person is supposedly occupied until Nov 1 working on Elon's travel route.
