rear trunk of model X

rear trunk of model X

Does anyone know the distance between the 3rd row seat and the trunk door? I'm trying to determine if the space is large enough for a medium/ large dog?

Also, vehicles like the volvo xc60 have very good dog barriers that you can install? Will Tesla offer something similar?

Finally, for most of my driving I can have the 3rd row seats down...could you move such a barrier to a front location?

@jrgoldman

I'll hazard a guess that it's about 70 inches since Tesla has a photo of fitting a bike with its front wheel turned to fit it in.

A standard size bike is 70 inches. If you cannot lay a bike flat then it must be a tight fit.

I don't see why a gigantic dog would not fit in Model X.

Lots of us are dog owners but I don't think Tesla offer dog barriers.

You'll have to do it yourself.

Kennels, that's what we'll use for 2 smaller dogs.

I thought you use the roof rack for the dog? Oops, no roof rack for the X. Maybe a good thing.

Just... wow.

The space behind the third row is closed up when the rear hatch is closed and the third row seats are in the up position. There is a small shelf mounted to the rear door that closes off the top of the space above the rear storage.

The rear storage space tapers from about 20 inches at the floor level to about 6 or 8 inches at the top of the third row seat backs. Pure estimate based on a quick look. Under the removable floor panel there is also a large basement.

With both third row seats in the up position the area is completely enclosed when the hatch is closed. I did not study it closely to see if the built in cover was removable from the rear door.

@TeslaTap.com I suppose if I were Romney I might do this :)
