Want to Learn About Tesla Maintenance (Apprenticeship- Weekends)

I am a Mechanical Engineering Graduate and I would like to create a part time hobby of fixing (doing maintenance work) on Tesla car as a Tesla Employee.

I would like to work on weekends or late evenings at a Tesla service centre (even free if applicable) , but I am not sure if that's the best option I have .

How else would you advise I do that ? Learning about the software updates and fixing the car . I forsee the fact that there would be lot of Tesla car in the future and I would like to be at the forefront of that

If you want to talk directly to people on that career path, go to a Service Center. They may have time and advice for you.

I did go through the career website and I didn't see any application for apprentice, but next plan was to go to the service centre. I thought of asking would there be any other way I can approach the maintenance part of Tesla as an avid learner .

I thought this was a general discussion forum for enthusiasts not just owners. Not sure if thats right or not

You say you would like to be an Apprentice, but what you describe is more like an Internship. There don't seem to be any Service Center Internships on offer.

You could write to Tesla Service or Human Resources and ask management to consider you for a new position as an Intern. Give them your qualifications, experience, and be honest about your enthusiasm. Then wait.

In the meantime, you might consider applying for one of the 'Service Technician' or 'Service Assistant' positions to get your foot in the door.

You are right about the forum, but it is not an official channel to management. You will get informed assessments and guesses to answer your questions, but not authoritative ones.

Thank you gents for your replies .

I have written to the HR about my enthusiasm but I am not optimistic that I would get a reply . As the primary screeing of candidates from HR does not take more than 2 secs and I am someone that has a really specific demand - so I am not sure how far I would go with my sudden burst of spark for Tesla Maintenance . May be I am biased , but I would keep at it !

I wanted to start learning about the car and maintenance part of the car . Eventually being an integral part of Tesla and supporting the company in performing Home-service Maintenance on weekends - I am not sure if apprentinceship or internship would be the best mood for this . but my next step is to approach the service centres .

I have already applied for the Serice Technician and Service Assitant jobs - Hoping I'll get an interview and something is available for the weekends.

Take a look at the MegaFactories video of the Tesla Motors plant in Fremont.

The maintenance on these cars should be very straightforward for anyone mechanically inclined who possesses opposable thumbs and an IQ significantly higher than their sneaker size. Brakes, tires, suspension... these are all rather straightforward. Pretty much everything about the car is designed for Remove and Replace, rather than Repair.

Maintenance and Reliability go hand in. I am not surprised that Tesla motors prefers to replace the equipment that would require hire labor cost (who I presume have the basic knowledge and assertiveness training in differentiating between a sneaker size and a thou ) and having a clear understanding of MTBF and also feasbility to do either schedule replacement/discard vs fixing it .

Unique prospect about Tesla is that they have their own maintenance strategy and team - Hence minimal competition and the demand would only increase in the future!

Having said that I need more hands on knowledge rather than just concepts. I hope I can learn more hands on about the car and I am really excited to pursue it too .
