Does anyone out there know the final length of the Model 3? My second garage space is limited to no more than about 180" because of workbenches.

No one outside of Tesla knows that. However with that said, I am sure it will fit. 180" is 15 ft. The MS is 16 ft 3 inches long, and if you look at any of the videos of the M≡, with a MS in the picture, it is noticeably smaller.

here's the estimates MotorTrend had from their Model ☰ writeup:
Model 3 184"L x 74"W x 56 ½"H 113"WB on 20" wheels

looks like you will need to find a new home for the workbenches

For comparison, the MS is 196 inches (16' 4") I believe Motor Trend estimated that the M≡ was about 90% of the size of a MS.

497cm is about the length of the Model S...don't think so for the Model 3...

You should know better than to ask a heavily male dominated group how long it is. Just sayin

I was informed that the M3 was the same size as the Audi A4 (but much better in every way!).

My estimate: length < 4362mm (171.7")

This figure is the average of the values obtained from the following pictures, considering the same wheelbase as the Model S i.e. 2960mm (116.5")

It seems to me I remember Elon stated at the reveal it was 15 inches shorter than the Model S

Bersus |

ok, so if the alpha prototypes had, what?, 19'' wheels? or 21''? we can start from there, right?

anywhere around 4m40cm would be swell!!!

A very long while ago, Elon and crew said the Model 3 would be 20% smaller than the MS. The MS is 16ft long, using Elon's numbers, that would make the Model 3 a little over 12 ft, 6 inches long. However, without using an actually measuring tape, it was Motor Trends estimation that the Model they had on hand for their review, looked to be about 90% of the size of a MS. That would put the Model 3 at about 14 ft, 6 inches.

@jordanrichard

Your math is faulty. The "20% smaller" quote would have referred to area (or possibly volume). You can't simply take 20% off of each dimension. Doing that would give you car that is 36% smaller.

@Carl

Your math is faulty. The "20% smaller" quote applied to each dimension for area or volume would produce a car that is ~49% smaller.

From what we have seen in the pictures, the main cabin will be just as long as the S, only it will be about 3" narrower. So the M3 is about 90% of the cabin size, and 80% of the overall size. The biggest loss is from front and rear overhangs. I would put a lot of trust in the estimates from MotorTrend as they have been the only official news organization that had extended time with the M3 alpha prototype.: Model 3 184"L x 74"W x 56 ½"H 113"WB on 20" wheels.

Yes, but who, other than maybe a painter, measures cars by area? :)

dsvick:

LOL. A painter would probably want _surface_ area which would be different. I'm assuming the term "size" referred to footprint (area) but I could definitely be wrong! Though the Motor Trend estimate seems to agree with that assumption.

Smiling at this line.
The Model S is WAAY big. I had to move my loading bench (reloading ammo) out to the deck in order to fit the 2 Model S90Ds that I bought last year into the garage.
Then we've never parked both of them in the garage-- just one, in diagonally ....

Since Elon didn't specify which aspects of the Model 3 would be 20% smaller, I just went with the car's length. Since everything anyone here knows is a WAG, how can my math be wrong?

At TESLA they only use metrics !!!

L=467 cm

Model 3 184"L x 74"W x 56 ½"H 113"WB on 20" wheels

1 inch = 2,54 cm

Summon with a turntable would be ultimate. Also would provide income for those who could integrate summon, garage door activation and turntable turning.
