Anyone has similar experience on delivery rescheduled?

Anyone has similar experience on delivery rescheduled?

My Model 3 delivery was scheduled on 8/8 10am at Fremont Delivery Center.

On 8/7 around 8:30PM, received an (auto) email that told me:

"Your vehicle is not yet ready for delivery.
We apologize for any inconvenience, your Inside Delivery Advisor will reschedule you once the car is ready."

It's very late notice since I've prepared everything (auto loan, insurance, set aside time to pickup)

Tried to reach out my IDA via Email and Phone several time this morning (8/8) and receive no response.
Tried to call Tesla Customer Service, and just informed My IDA will handle it.

Just log on to my Tesla Account, and surprisingly found out my VIN and Purchase Agreement have been removed, and only order agreement still there.

Still waiting for my IDA's response, but I think it's very bad experience. Since I have used the VIN for my auto loan and insurance. No one has contacted me so far on what happened.

Anyone has similar experience?

derek.b92902121 | 2018年8月8日

Just receive a call from IDA, he say the vehicle has not passed their 'strict inspection'.
New car/VIN assigned and another week of waiting.

Hope everything contribute to a superb new car condition.

California85D | 2018年8月8日

On the bright side, it's good they didn't try to deliver the car if they found problems.

rajmw | 2018年8月8日

Agreed, I would give a Kudos to Tesla for that one. Hope that you have a good delivery experience in the end.

saucow | 2018年8月8日

I got the exact same email from Fremont: "Good evening,

Your vehicle is not yet ready for delivery.

We apologize for any inconvenience, your Inside Delivery Advisor will reschedule you once the car is ready."

No contact from IDA either, I called support twice begging for them to have some sort of contact. Left multiple emails with no response. The sad thing too is that they never even stated why it is not ready. I've never been so let down by a company before. It is beyond frustrating.

the_freddies | 2018年8月8日

My appointment was for 9:45am today in Fremont and I had the same thing happen. But when I emailed my IDA this morning saying we were disappointed he called me and said he didn't see anything as to why the car wasn't ready and that he spoke to some one who said the car was just being detailed.

We headed to Fremont only to find out that the email was right. I spoke with Alex, who was a manager of some sort, who stated that they're trying to inspect the cars more carefully and that they had to delay deliveries to make sure everything was perfect. He wouldn't tell me if anything was wrong my our car but made it sound like they're just being more careful. He could have been blowing smoke but who knows.

Tonight I noticed my VIN is gone from my account but the purchase agreement is still there. Not sure if we'll get a new VIN or when we'll get the car.

Frustrating for sure, but I know the car will be wonderful once we get it! I'm hoping Tesla is able to work the kinks out of their system and we all get our cars soon!

the_freddies | 2018年8月8日

By the way, when we were at Fremont today there was NOBODY there picking up cars. We were there from about 30 minutes waiting around to talk with the manager dude.

M3LA | 2018年8月8日

Just had my delivery tomorrow AM cancelled. (Marina del Rey, RWD midnight silver, 47xxx VIN, order date 7/26)

My sales agent has been great thus far and I had even confirmed my VIN was onsite earlier today. Unfortunately, the person calling tonight said there is a batch of cars with issues being held up from delivery. I wonder how widespread this is....

Moeglie | 2018年8月8日

Just had my delivery "rescheduled" for the SECOND time this afternoon....

First email from IDA was on 7/25 for pick up in SoCal Costa Mesa on 7/31. I had travel planned 7/31 to 8/3 in SF for work so I tried to move it to following week or weekend. They told me that if I didn't pick up the car within 7 days of it being at Costa Mesa (Car was apparently at delivery center on Friday 7/27 but first appointment available was 7/31) I would have to be "rematched" to new vehicle and that could be 4-6 weeks.

After emailing back and forth with IDA I moved my work schedule and compromised on an appointment of 7/30 at 12:45 PM. I show up to my appointment on time on the day agreed only to wait about 1 hr before before being addressed by a "Manager" who told me that due to a faulty rear view camera the car would not be deliverable. They suggested I be rematched to a new vehicle as they had no ETA on parts for fix. Basically I would have to wait 4-6 weeks anyway to get my car.

After an angry email to my IDA asking why they made we waste my time I had no recourse but wait apparently. (I asked about a refund of my deposit and order fee since the car was faulty and non deliverable, they dodged the question)

After flying back in from SF to SoCal on Friday I was happy to find my IDA sent an email that I had been rematched to a new vehicle available for pickup today 8/8 at 6:00 PM. Obviously I was happy I didn't have to wait longer than 1 week since I was turned away so assuming they would ensure the car was ready I accepted.

Fast forward to today I leave work early and get on the freeway to Delivery Center (Granted asking me to fight 5 PM traffic to pick up Tesla sucked but I thought it would be worth the drive.) After being 1 hour in the car drive due to traffic I check my phone to clear messages before walking into Delivery Center.... Lo and behold I had a missed call from Tesla that once again my car was "Undeliverable" due to quality issues.

At this point I have no idea what is going on with Tesla and delivery of my car. Its a First Production White and I dont see why its so hard to get it into my hands. I have never actually asked to see any of my promised vehicles but given the advice of a skeptical friend I will be sure I ask to see my "undeliverable" car just to make sure Tesla isn't just messing with me and assigning VIN numbers to customers banking on people who dont respond to emails not showing up to their appointments....

Also considering taking my money back since I think they should offer to refund me 100% after missing the delivery twice in a row. The least they could do is offer some super charging for like a month or a floor mat right? lol

DC86 | 2018年8月8日

-Appointment at Marina Del Rey 8/8/18 4:45PM.
-They told me the car had some minor exterior defects so they will be assigning me a new one and my IDA will contact me to reschedule.
-Overheard a conversation and same thing happen to another guy.
-Went home in my old car :(

crystalhelix | 2018年8月8日

looking to pick up in Pittsburgh, been delayed once for sure, being told maybe a delay again from Friday to Saturday but also told they aren't really sure where my car is, but there's an appointment set for me on my tesla account for Friday, I am not having a great experience

mkrueger3 | 2018年8月8日

My appointment was scheduled for 8/6 at Rocklin/Sacramento. After spending 30 minutes at my credit union getting the cashier's check I get a call from my IDA that the front end of the car was damaged during off loading. I was given a new VIN within 24 hours and have yet to schedule another pick up date. The communication with my IDA has been nothing but positive and I'm hoping for a smooth transaction the second time around. That being said, it can be a big inconvenience. I live almost 3 hours away from Rocklin and my wife and I took off work to pick up the car. Now we have to reschedule and take more time off work. I also feel bad for my loan officer because he has to do the process all over again since we are dealing with a new VIN. I know, first world problems.

Mnr914 | 2018年8月8日

I had a scheduled delivery date of aug 14. Got a call from Tesla telling me the car was here yesterday and if I would like to pick the car up early. Of course I said yes and was scheduled to pick up tomorrow the 9th. Well around 6pm today I received a call from Tesla telling me there was a scratch on the fender and was going to need to go to the paint shop and told me it could be up to 2 weeks till it all gets fixed. Why play with my emotions lol. After waiting over 2 years I finally get a delivery date then they tell me I can pick up sooner and the less than 24hrs before pick up they tell me I may have to wait another 2weeks. SIGH.

jeffrey3 | 2018年8月8日

Just received a call from Costa Mesa delivery center. They are going to cancel my delivery for tomorrow 8/9. I logged into the app, the VIN number is gone....

saucow | 2018年8月8日

From piecing together scattered information from different forums it appears there was a paint issue that affected multiple colors across the VIN: 58XXX range and maybe more. But then again who knows what the issue was since nobody at Tesla seems bothered to be transparent. Looks like they will just assign us all new vins with a best case scenario of 1-2 weeks and quote "growing pains" as their excuse. What a joke for a 60k price car.

dragon_summie | 2018年8月8日

Was scheduled for 8/8 - I called local service center (Tysons, VA) 8/7 inside 24 hour delivery window. Claimed car wasn't there yet and rescheduled for 8/17. My VIN has also disappeared from my account (although I had it for a while before it appeared about a week ago).

gmkellogg | 2018年8月9日

Delivery hell. Next it'll be service hell.

Midnight 85D | 2018年8月9日

Same thing happened to my wife’s 3. Initially scheduled Aug.4th but was called stating there was an issue with the car and we will be given a new VIN. We are scheduled again for pickup this Saturday Aug 11th. It’s such a hassle as all the paper work and back and forth with the credit union had to be redone because of the new VIN number. After reading all the similar posts I’m concerned that the delivery will be postponed again.

My bigger concern however is that Tesla may have sacrificed quality for quantity. I have a Model S and have no issues at all, but I’m having second thoughts about the Model 3. If it gets postponed again due to a “problem with the car” we will most likely just cancel the reservation.

steve | 2018年8月9日

My delivery in Fremont was scheduled for 9:45am (20 min from now) and as we pulled off 880 I got a call from Tesla informing me that my car was not on site and that a new date would need to be scheduled. I sensed that man on the phone was quite apologetic and did was he could to assure me this wouldn’t happen again. We drove about an hour to get here and it’s rather frustrating this call could have come 60 minutes ago.

gmkellogg | 2018年8月9日

This entire delivery process screams the need for checklists for these ISAs. Once delivery hell is over, I'm wondering if they'd have a way to utilize the built in GPS devices to give people a real time location of their vehicle. Obviously this would be a future ask for many years from now, but how cool would it be to track your car from Fremont to your delivery center. You could even add status updates to it, "In for inspection", "requires paint remediation", "Damaged in transit". It'd certainly save them a lot of phone calls and it seems like something you could eventually automate at some later date.

seymourg | 2018年8月9日

Also have been rescheduled x1. 2nd delivery date at MDR this weekend but judging from now more than just anecdotal data, I'm not super optimistic.

Also my IDA told me that due to increased deliveries in batches, the idea that we are assigned to a physical car/VIN that is being rolled off the assembly line is no longer true in most cases. Rather they assign people to batches of deliveries and you don't really have personal physical car until you get matched up at the local delivery center. This may be why people are having VINs switched around. It seems like sort of a chaotic system but who knows. It must be difficult for people who need VINs for financing and such. I was never disclosed a VIN even up till 2 days before my first rescheduled delivery, presumably because of the above and because I'm doing cash.

cutiger02 | 2018年8月9日

"This may be why people are having VINs switched around. It seems like sort of a chaotic system but who knows. It must be difficult for people who need VINs for financing and such."

Yep, I believe almost every Credit Union is going to require a VIN. My credit union cuts me a check but I have to fill in the VIN when I sign it. So my check was sent to Tesla two weeks ago. My delivery is saturday. If my VIN changes, it is going to create all sorts of chaos.

steve | 2018年8月9日

Following up from my earlier comment (with typos via iPhone) my delivery was scheduled for 8/9 @9:45am. It was canceled via a phone call at 8/9 9:24am as we were exiting the freeway in Fremont. I received a followup email apologizing and stating the need for a reschedule. The gentleman on the phone stated "usually 3 days for a reschedule" and that they schedule for weekend deliveries so fingers crossed. Also, on the website there was a VIN number listed which has now disappeared and I'm guessing may now change. Time to call my insurance company as I set it up this morning with the VIN #.

timmryan7 | 2018年8月9日

I was rescheduled 8 times due to logistics. Car was never located, and now I am starting over with a new VIN. Not sure how long it will take this time around.

steve | 2018年8月9日

Update #3: I received a call from my IDA at 5:30pm (8/9). While she didn't have any new details she wanted me to know that she was working on my behalf to find out what was happening from "eyes on the ground at the DC" but hasn't heard back. She was very nice and apologized saying she found out at the same time I did that the car wasn't available. She also mentioned she would touch with me by the end of the day tomorrow even if there wasn't a new date scheduled. Despite not taking delivery I'm glad she called and touched base.

the_freddies | 2018年8月9日

I heard back from my IDA today about my cancelled delivery from August 8th. He said the Fremont delivery hub was correcting some paint issues and the car would be ready for delivery beginning August 17th. I'm hoping it's something they get right and we don't get rescheduled again.

My VIN did disappear from my account after the cancellation so it remains to be seen whether my VIN changes or not.

rextan55 | 2018年8月10日

My delivery also got cancelled today. black on black 71xxx at MDR. They sounded a bit annoyed already, like theyve been giving bad news all day. My IDA never reaches out to me, and didnt even know i was ready for delivery until I had to reach out myself. was set for pickup 8/10.

They say it can take up to 2 weeks... That would suck.

thejulman | 2018年8月10日

I got totally screwed. I was scheduled for a morning pickup on July 9th this week at the Fremont delivery office. I drove close to two hours through LA traffic excited to get the car I’ve been waiting for over 2 years. The moment I walked into the delivery office it was all down hill. I was immediately told my car didn’t pass inspection and that I needed to come back maybe next week for pickup. Unreal!!! I didn’t get a phone call or an email about the inspection failure. Wasted almost 4 hours round trip going to Tesla delivery for nothing. Very upsetting. Now I’m in a holding pattern waiting to get my Model 3. I’m not upset about the strict inspections and that Tesla is trying to deliver a perfect car. I applaud Tesla for that. I’m upset that I got no notification ahead of time until I traveled all the way there and was told in person. This is unacceptable service for a high end vehicle. The least they could do is give the people who got screwed over a discount code for the store or something to ease the pain. Totally bummed right now.

samuelbarthelemy | 2018年8月10日

wish me luck...driving an hour today to get mine... emailed the isa yesterday and he said everything was still on track.... don't want to make a 2 hour round trip for no reason.

gio021794 | 2018年8月10日

I ordered my car last Sunday, I was told it was ready to be picked up 8/12 @ Fremont. I have been going back and forth with my IDA about my Contract of Purchase, as I needed it to pick up my check from the CU. Today he emailed me saying things were ready to go and I would get the contract by EOD. Then a few minutes later he called to say the vehicle had not past inspection and we needed to reschedule. He said he would reach out to reschedule for the next week or so. Let's see how it goes!

SeaDoc | 2018年8月10日

This nightmare of having my new P3D+ white/white postponed delivery so it can go to a body shop has me so close to just say 'screw it'. I love my S, so frankly to have this 3 is a bit 'over-the-top' anyway. Has anyone requested a refund of the deposit given the fact the car is no longer "new" as it is very possible the title records of the car will be tarnished by these 'fixes'... thoughts?

ap.pony | 2018年8月10日

I'm on my 2nd VIN. Called delivery center since I'm supposed to pick it up tomorrow. They said it's not there and had no advice as to how I should proceed. My delivery specialist has never responded to a phone call nor called me. VIN has now disappeared from my account, but no one has contacted me in any way. Debating just asking for my money back.

evan | 2018年8月10日

3 delivery appts cancelled due to ‘logistics’. Reserved in feb. ordered 7/13 after spending a few days pondering the config. DA is pretty responsive considering what I’ve read in these forums but Impossible to get any concrete detail ...also conversing with marina del Rey delivery center...all very nice folks but very vague on the info as well. Now no VIN and DA advised they were getting a new vehicle. After the 3rd cancelled delivery appt date web site switched to AUG - OCT and vin disappeared. Who knows. Just glad I still have something to drive! I feel bad for folks who travelled long distances and/or made arrangements to sell an existing car ...crazy times. Hopefully they’ll figure it out soon

Mnr914 | 2018年8月10日

I had posted previously that the vehicle had a scratch. I guess I misunderstood. I received an email today stating that there was a dent on the fender. They asked what I wanted to do. Whether I wanted for them to go ahead and rectify it at a certified body shop and would take 2-3 weeks or if I wanted a new vehicle with the same configurations would be 3-5 weeks.
The thing is I already have the vehicle paid for and it’s insurance all linked to that vin number I don’t want to go through the hassle of doing paper work and changing all that.
What I would really want is to take delivery of the vehicle like I was suppose to already and for them to maybe order a new fender and I can just take it in for service instead of them sending it in and just getting it fixed.
BTW it is a Long Range Rear Wheel Drive in Red getting delivered to TX.

steve | 2018年8月10日

Update #4: As promised my IDA called at 6:00pm PST this evening and I was rescheduled for delivery on 8/16 in Fremont. Looking forward to taking delivery and fingers crossed!

steve | 2018年8月10日

Update #5: Forgot to mention the VIN once again appears on the website and is the same as before.

jeffrey3 | 2018年8月10日

I have a non-delivery on 8/8. Still waiting for my IDA to call me back. Sigh :(

Revelate | 2018年8月11日

@Mnar: take the car, work it out with the SC / body shop. Texas deliveries add insult to injury to the delivery problems with the state laws there, I wouldn’t risk 5 weeks turning into 8 previously if it gets stuck in Chicago like other Texas bound cars.

I forget who said this but the concept that they still batching cars to locations and then matching seems a bit absurd: people are getting their VINs assigned weeks before delivery and Tesla doesn’t have the room in the delivery centers to store them.

The more likely cause on the RWD failures is what was posted a few days ago when this latest rash started: there was a manufacturing problem with a batch of cars and the local Tesla delivery centers are are refusing them as a result of failed inspection.

pbasu | 2018年8月11日

I booked the car in Canada in March 2017. Then I configured and paid the second advance on July 12. Tesla informed that I can expect delivery some time between August and October, 2018. Has anyone in Canada received delivery of Model 3 in July or August? If so what has been the experience?

seymourg | 2018年8月11日

@revelate I had previously propagated that info. I don’t know, that’s just what I was told. I had delivery scheduled before I had a VIN. Even 2 days before delivery my IDA could not tell me what my VIN was. A VIN finally popped up on my account between my 1st delivery cancellation and my 2nd delivery appt. But now that one disappeared after my 2nd delivery cancellation today. So that theory could fit my experience as well as others who have had VIN switches. But who knows. Sounds like people are having a variety of experiences.

Anyway, as a data point: I’m pending AWD delivery on my second cancellation from MDR/LA. No more VIN, no rescheduled date yet. Waiting to hear from IDA.

mos6507 | 2018年8月12日

[Tesla may have sacrificed quality for quantity.]

Yes, because "Good, fast, cheap. Pick two."

ed3050 | 2018年8月13日

Facing similar experience as OP. I had to refuse delivery on my first outing (RWD in white). Very big blemish below the car door similar to un-sanded painted over bondo. Surprised even the host that it passed inspection as it was really visible from 20-30 feet. Assured me that Tesla would do right and will get me a car to my satisfaction. I really appreciated that. Since then, I have received a new VIN and on my 3rd reschedule due to logistics issue as my car was offsite (7/22 (blemish car), 8/5, 8/9 and now 8/17).

First email communication started with IDA on 7/12. Payment was transferred and paid in full on 7/21, but no car ☹. I shouldn’t be complaining as I am delayed just barely a month and relatively shorter than other folks that are still delayed much longer. Even more so than folks still waiting to get their VIN. It just stings a bit as I was buying additional shares of TSLA at the same time during one of the short lived dips. Could have gotten an AWD and even performance upgrade if I sold now ☺

I don’t want to blame my IDA as I totally understand delivery hell, so I am not expecting 1:1 service. Would just be nice to get more automated updates if my car was not going to be ready for delivery. Having to constantly reach out to my IDA the day before each of my morning deliveries to find out my car was still offsite just doesn’t sit right with me.

Crossing my fingers for this Friday!

jdj | 2018年8月13日

I've had two delivery dates come and go with no car and no new date on the calendar. So ditto to all of the above.

I am wondering just how widespread this issue is and if it's always been like this with Model 3's or whether something happened in the last week or so. I can't find any reporting on it. Does anyone have a sense?

cee3rok | 2018年8月13日

Ditto to most of this. On our 2nd VIN after trekking over to MDR on Saturday morning to find that our delivery was cancelled. No call or email, communication log verified this. They were incredibly vague about what happened and wouldn't let us talk to manager. Ended up with a rental courtesy of Tesla for the next who-knows-how-long. There was another couple that had a similar thing happen to them at the rental place too. We did receive a status update later in the afternoon verifying that the vehicle did not pass inspection and a new VIN was going to be issued. They stated that they were going to track down our configuration and home deliver it to us. The vague estimates we were given were 1-2 weeks, but should be within a week. We'll see...

Has anyone actually received the car fairly quickly after a VIN reassignment like this?

Abnoidz | 2018年8月14日

I unfortunately understand how you guys feel. I was scheduled to take delivery today too but got canceled last minute. I am trying to keep a positive attitude but its hard considering how some situations that happened really sucks. Starting from my Inside Delivery Specialist - She told me that I was getting the Purchase Agreement a few days before delivery so I can get the cashiers check from the bank that will be financing my car. A day before delivery still no email of my Purchase Agreement or no contact from my IDS. I called my IDS and got an email saying she was out of the office and will not be back until the day of my delivery which will be too late to process my Cashiers check. I had to call the generic Tesla customer service which you guys know you will have to be on hold for over an hour. I was finally able to get someone to email me the Purchase agreement and was able to get my check 10 minutes before the bank closed.

I have heard a lot of last-minute delivery cancellations so i called the day before asking if my car is at the service center and if it passed the inspection. I got an email saying we are confirming your delivery for tomorrow. I called in advance because I was supposed to work the day of delivery so I had to call off from work to take delivery. I had Uber pick me up so I can get my Model 3. The delivery center is 1.5 hrs away from my house. When I was almost at the delivery center I got a call saying they had to cancel my delivery because my car didnt pass the final inspection.

I was very disappointed and irritated! What could have happened from yesterday and a few hours later for the car to be ready then not pass inspection? couldn't they have inspected it a day before? the only explanation I got was that when they were bringing my car to the delivery bay it asked for an update. Now I have lost a day of work, gotten no sleep for nothing ( i was too excited to sleep well), and spent money for transportation that they didnt reimburse. sorry i had to vent!!

In their defense when I called the Tesla customer service to help me get my Purchase agreement the guy on the phone was very nice and accommodating. He even did a follow up call making sure I got what I needed. Also in the delivery center everyone was pleasant, the delivery manager was trying his best to get my car ready but after an hour he said it was not going to be ready. he apologized and got me a ride home. he also said he will cover the ride back when the car is ready. No ETA on my car yet so I will just wait for the call.

senspeed | 2018年8月14日

My delivery was also cancelled today at the last minute due to "paint issues" after I arrived . Tesla didn't allow me to see the car. On top of that no warning ahead of time. Loans, work schedule, all out the window. Next delivery? Who knows.

dsnodgrass3 | 2018年8月14日

My appointment was scheduled on 8/10. I heard all of the horror stories so I even confirmed with my IDA that my car was indeed ready. He confirmed. I got an email the day before delivery from the delivery center itself confirming my appointment and telling me my car is ready. I get there on 8/10 with my family (2 kids 3 and under) and sit there for about an hour.

Suddenly called into conference room and told the car had damage from delivery and it would be about a week to fix the issues. I went ahead and traded in my old car and took their rental. Haven’t heard any sort of update and noticed my VIN is gone from my account. So that’s where I’m at.

steve | 2018年8月17日

Update #6 (final update): I took delivery today in Fremont. Ordered 7/20/2018 and had first car released due to my being on vacation. Metallic Blue/RWD/EAP/19" wheels. Checked in at 3:30pm for 4:00pm appt. browsed the waiting room for 10 minutes before a rep approached me (they texted me too). She lead me to the car which was parked outside where I inspected it (with my kids/wife). I then signed the paperwork which took (I'm guessing) less than 10 minutes. She answered any/all questions handled me the final paperwork (1 page) and we drove away all smiles. Btw, my IDA (she was awesome) called me yesterday at the end of the day and informed me my car was at the delivery center and ready to go. The car at ~150miles worth of charge so we stopped at the SuperCharger at the Factory before heading home. I drove roughly 60 miles since delivery and it's been an absolute joy.

gio021794 | 2018年8月17日

Thats great @Steve! I cannot wait!

NorCalMSM | 2018年8月17日

Congrats @Steve, Enjoy your M3!

I’m scheduled to take delivery this Sunday Aug 19th in Fremont. I asked my IDA if the car was on site and ready. He said from where he sits, everything is looking good and on-track for Sunday He said the car will go thru final inspection/detailing the day before (Saturday). Really hoping everything checks out and delivery goes smoothly.
