"Chinese-Americans, Facing Abuse, Unite to Aid Hospitals in Coronavirus Battle"

Although many have weathered racist remarks and some physical attacks over the virus, Chinese-Americans are tapping their deep social networks to procure medical supplies.

Dr. Peter Lee, an emergency room doctor from Montville, N.J., was close to an emotional breakdown by the time he took to WeChat, the social media app, last month.

He was under siege on all fronts. At work, he was constantly dodging exposure to the coronavirus. At home, he was worried about infecting his pregnant wife and young daughters. And in his everyday life, he was suddenly navigating a new bias against Chinese-Americans.

“Comments like calling this ‘the Chinese virus’ have ramifications for someone like me,” said Dr. Lee, 34, whose father moved from Beijing to Albany, N.Y., with $60 in his pocket in 1986. “They fuel a certain prejudice against my kind.”

All Americans should remember Trump/GOP racist attack against our neighbors, friends and colleagues in November.

Vote the racist Trump/GOP out.

Hey jimglas- What makes you think these idiots are all Trump supporters? Racist douchebags are in both parties. It's the person not the party.

Also some blue jackets.

Looks like Trumps attack on Americans of Asian decent to try and blame China for Trump's failure to act vs. Covid-19 has another part to it, using the "Yellow Peril" to create that "outside threat" to try and get a rally-round-the-dictator effect for the election...and a few more billiion wasted on military.'

"U.S. Military Seeks More Funding for Pacific Region After Pandemic A report delivered to Congress last week called for $20.1 billion in equipment, exercises and defense investments to counter China in 2021 and beyond."

Sorry boys, Trump spent your bathtub toy money on a real attack on US national security his failure on Covid-19 that's gonna kill 200,000 and has cost $10T to date.

Now you do have EIGHTEEN AIRCRAFT carriers to China's ONE. That should hold off the "Yellow Peril" for a while. US spends $1.2T on military. China spends $300B. Who is threatening whom?

@Tesla2018. It is wrong to generalize I agree. But as a long time observer of worldwide politics and having grown up in South Africa I do have the necessary skill to recognize a racist. And I have seen a predominance of racism among Trump and his faithful band of mutant MAGA hatters.

US should be cutting military spending by $500B to pay for Trump's Covid-19 debacle. We'd still be spending $700B, twice that of Russia and China combined. Crazy money. And that's on top of EU spending TWICE what Russia spends and Japan, Korea and Taiwan spending 70% of what China spends.

US is the threat and then we complain when others build defenses against the clear and present danger that Trump/Pompeo and the Fox News Defense Dept represent to world.

The source of the racist attack on Asian Americans by the Trump administration turns out to be Peter Navarro, a fringe right wing economist whose career is based on an anti-China ideology. His claim to fame are two books, The Coming China Wars" and then "Death by China".

Here's Navarro, an economist, touting drug efficacy to Dr. Fauci, Dr. Brix and others, promoting dangerous malarial drugs (which are only tried by hospitals as last resort for dying Covid-19 patients). The craziness of the Trump regime in one example.

"Navarro had brought a stack of paperwork with him into the Situation Room on the drug, arguing it was proof that it could work to treat coronavirus, which Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, disagreed with because it was not data. "What are you talking about?" Fauci asked -- a question that set Navarro off. He became indignant, and at one point, accused Fauci of opposing Trump's travel restrictions on China, which confused many in the room, given Fauci was one of the initial few to agree with Trump on the move, the source said."

Navarro a frequent Fox News opinionator then goes to Fox News which promotes the quackery and attacks Dr. Fauci as Fox desperately tries to somehow blame China for Trump's incompetence.

"I’m an Asian American doctor on the front lines of two wars: Coronavirus and racism ‘I’m not racist, I just don’t want to get the virus,’ one patient told me.

I am an Asian American physician working in the emergency room at the University of California in San Francisco, and my experience is not isolated. As headlines continue to provide updates about the covid-19 virus overwhelming hospitals across the country, an overt wave of xenophobic and racist sentiment has also swept in.

Early on, even before the coronavirus was officially labeled a pandemic, Asian commuters shared traumatic stories of harrowing public transits marked by racial slurs, spitting, and physical assaults from passersby. And on Sunday, a man wearings medical scrubs and an N95 mask blocking an anti-lockdown protest in Denver was told to “Go back to China". A month ago, after President Trump defended his use of the term “Chinese Virus,” I began to worry about the safety of my patients.
