First invite for Model 3 configuration for non-employee went out today!

First invite for Model 3 configuration for non-employee went out today!

Here is M3 reddit post:

mntlvr23 | 2017年11月15日

great news, if true (it still could be a relative)

Frank99 | 2017年11月15日

I'm not going to believe it until SamO announces.

TeslaSMTL | 2017年11月15日

I still have long way to go to configure M3. I just put deposit to reserve the car.

Yodrak. | 2017年11月15日

I'm glad to know that now I'm not the last person in line.

Carl Thompson | 2017年11月15日

Just when I was getting all angry at Tesla for misleading us it turns out they were telling the truth about only being delayed a month?

KP in NPT | 2017年11月15日

Hmm. I'd find it easier to believe if one of the many current owners who live near the factory could corroborate. Or if it was confirmed by Electrek or Teslarati. That said, it should be soon if December is to be the big month they seem to think.

Tropopause | 2017年11月15日

The media seems to be ignoring this tidbit. Go figure.

rgrant | 2017年11月15日

I would like firmer confirmation, but it has to happen one day, so why not today...

Sweetride | 2017年11月15日

A flurry of invites would be more convincing.

tas | 2017年11月15日

Early 2019 :(

flwrman | 2017年11月16日

Sure hope this is true !!?? I have not received an invite email as of 11/16 @ 12:51 am. I live in Fremont about 5 miles from the factory. Stood inline on 3/31/16 in Fremont. Doors opened at 10:am, entered all my info about 10:17 am and was walking in the back parking lot to my car at 10:20 am !!!
Would be nice to know where this non-employee person lives that received his invite to configure.

rxlawdude | 2017年11月16日

Perhaps this is real, perhaps this is total BS. For sanity sake, consider it BS until others are confirming they got the email.

bp | 2017年11月16日

Until Tesla confirms they've turned the corner on the production bottlenecks - and can significantly increase the production rate, even if an "outsider" has been asked to configure their car, until we start seeing multiple people confirming this has happened - and the number keeps increasing, this isn't an indication Tesla has started the clock on when they will really start delivering production cars (i.e., cars being sold to outsiders).

While the Tesla site indicates we should get our Model 3 in Nov 2017 to Jan 2017, it's pretty clear we've already missed the November window - and December seems like a pretty long shot.

And if delivery slips out until early next year, if the $7500 EV tax credit goes away, we'll have to reconsider our options - whether we'll take earlier delivery of a Model 3 with few configuration options, or wait until later next year when we could get dual motor, air suspension, and likely more configuration options.

AlMc | 2017年11月16日

I agree with @rxlawdude: need confirmation. As to @flwrman: Don't be surprised if 'friends of Tesla/EM' that are not employees get their 3s before the first person to place a reservation on 3/31/16.

TeslaSMTL | 2017年11月16日

I'm not in an hurry. My Mazda 3 GT 2011 bought in 2010, still work good. Just planning when it reach near 10 years to change my car. I don't mind being End of 2018

andy.connor.e | 2017年11月16日

This article has zero proof. Its an article about a rumor. Literally re-rumoring a rumor.

Captain_Zap | 2017年11月16日

It could be true. I saw a Model 3 that is owned by an employee in the Seattle area. That means that they are not just delivering to California Tesla employees.

JAD | 2017年11月16日

Seems like Musk might make an announcement tonight at the semi reveal if true....

LA-Fohlen | 2017年11月16日

@Tesla3MTLCanada - same with me, my Rio from 2012 has no issues and should hold for a while. Even though I have a reservation I'm looking more for second half 2019 or early 2020.

yaheya | 2017年11月16日

With all the bad news going on with Tesla, I will take this news (even if it is a rumor) to keep me afloat. Know what I mean?

jordanrichard | 2017年11月16日

Captain_Zap, the whole original plan was to deliver cars to the West coast first, so that certainly includes WA. It does though certainly increase people faith when they spot a Model 3 in the wild. I can only imagine that as more make it out into the public, the number of reservations will increase.

ReD eXiLe ms us | 2017年11月16日

Someone is still struggling with the definitions of 'deception' versus 'truth', I see.

Haggy | 2017年11月16日

I'm a current owner. I live near the factory. I was in line in Fremont long before they opened up. I wasn't the first, but there were perhaps one or two other Teslas in the parking lot. I got the feeling that there were few owners there, so even if there were 100 or more people ahead of me in line, I doubt I was far down the list of owners. Somebody else I know who was in line at another Bay Area location said that when it was opening time, a Tesla employee asked some questions, one of which was, by a show of hands, how many people in line were current owners. There were three. Assuming that owners in Fremont are no more or less likely than owners a few miles away to wait in line, then I'd say that I qualify as an early owner with a reservation made in Fremont. There was a Tesla employee who was greeting people in line individually and when I mentioned that I was an owner, she seemed surprised given that I'd get priority anyway. She didn't say anything about any other owners being ahead of me or not, not that she would necessarily say that, but she would have been less surprised if there had been many.

Incidentally, I didn't get an email like that. I double checked my account just to make sure it's not offering to let me configure and there's nothing there yet.

rxlawdude | 2017年11月16日

@Haggy, me too!

Jcastillo18 | 2017年11月16日

So it was a rumor.

hsadler | 2017年11月16日

sorry - had to say it.

noleaf4me | 2017年11月16日

Has this been confirmed?

rxlawdude | 2017年11月16日

Nope, not one word about the M3 tonight. I'd say total BS to the story.

JeffreyR | 2017年11月16日

Non-owner that lives w/in 15 minutes of Fremont factory and reserved 3/31 at 11am (arrived at 7am). There were about 100 people in front of me. Nothing yet.

jsanford | 2017年11月16日

Wait, back up. Captain_Zap, what’s this about a Seattle Tesla sighting? Washington plate? Not a demo for last weekend’s auto show?

bj | 2017年11月17日

Come on people, use your brains. If Tesla had commenced inviting non-employees to configure their Model 3, do you seriously think Tesla would say nothing? Especially given the recent bad news on production delays?

Tesla would be shouting it from the rooftops!!

flwrman | 2017年11月17日

@bj, sounds logical to me !!

johnmann | 2017年11月17日

There are at least two Model 3s in Washington state confirmed by photos, a third by rumor. All belonging to Tesla employees.

Rutrow | 2017年11月17日

Or at least singing it from the rooftop, with whiskey and s'mores.

eric.whang | 2017年11月17日

A horesht rumor

WantMY | 2017年11月19日

Everything is rumor unless it comes out officially from Tesla, but it is all we have right now.

Rumor #2: FYI heard from little birdy Model 3 production up to 70-80/day

SamO | 2017年11月19日

No invitation to configure.

WantMY | 2017年11月19日

@SamO I think you should like this one, just off the press: "Picked up a new Model S yesterday at Fremont delivery. Two Model 3s were being delivered. A red one and a white one with black upgraded wheels. My delivery person said these were going to employees. They also said Tesla owners should be getting config emails soon and cars early Jan. I took pics."

noleaf4me | 2017年11月19日

If they are really doing 70-80 per day -- they would have had to register more VIN's -- have they???

Brandon.J.Apperson | 2017年11月19日

They have plenty of VINs to fill in still, up to 2639, before registering new ones. I believe they are completing mostly finished cars from the initial checkout.

WantMY | 2017年11月19日

It is not like they were popping Model 3 at this rate for weeks. It would be leaked earlier, I do not find these claims as completely unreasonable. In fact, it would explain some mystery about large VIN allocations reported earlier.

SamO | 2017年11月19日

Thanks @WantM3 . . .very promising. Tesla's doom is delayed for a few more days. Kiss your wife and children, Tesla is almost over. Per Bob Lutz.

edhchoe | 2017年11月19日

So i thought i was way back at the end of the line with late 2018 delivery estimate. But i see some one with early 2019 est date.
That gives me little more faith.

WantMY | 2017年11月21日

Today's news: We have upto 003840 VINS allocated for this year:
